Trevor must know something about the players he took that we don't.

Timmins would have beat me this year but in '06 and '04 I would have kicked his butt. I hated Fischer's interview. Killed it for me picking him

I've been keeping track of this since 2002. Immediately after the draft, so I knew how far a player could fall to pick him, I chose what player I would have chosen for each pick. Let's just say I'm happy Timmins is that guy who makes the choices.

18. Jordan Schroeder F
65. Taylor Beck F
79. Cody Eakin F
109. Patrick Wey D
139. Jerry D'Amigo F
169. Erik Haula F
199. Danny Mattson F
211. Pekka Jormakka F

The only thing I've been right about (ever, possibly) is Parise. But that was just from watching him in the WJC and in video clips.

And I wouldn't have chosen him ahead of Kostitsyn after I saw Andrei's release.

So, the answer is definitely NO.

I like Fischer. I saw him at rookie camp. That kid can skate and has decent hands. I saw him get off a rocket too, though most of his shots were average. He has potential, no question.

He was definitely the leader on the ice too. All the other players wanted to interact with him and he did a great job with it.

for me, i don't follow prospects deep enough to really comment on anything past the 3rd-4th round, but here's what I thought for the first few picks

i'd have gone:
Leblanc or schroeder... i'd have been happy with either,
Nattinen
Rajala
Roy
The point of the guys you quoted is that none of us have a much of a clue how any of the guys picked played.
Most people didn't even see any of our picks play one single game.

So to sit here and blurt out names is simply useless.

I'm not gonna pretend to know about all the players drafted and say I'd have picked him or him instead.

Some people are entertained differently I guess...

While i dont entirely agree with your post i do on some levels. I can make my own list of players i wanted and they could be the best players out of the draft but i haven't seen over 80% of the players play i real life and would just make pure guesses off of projection and hype. But i have no problem with people making a list and trying to gain bragging rights in the future

65 - Joonas Nattinen is definately a good pick - Promising size for a future center.
79 - Ryan Bourque
109 - Olivier Roy

After that, I would just take random players pretty much.. probably another goalie and a couple of defenders.
We didn't have a 2nd round pick to give like pretty much every team that traded for a 1st rounder. Unless I'm mistaken..

And on the plus side the team could save a lot of money by firring everyone in the scouting department and letting you work from your home computer.

How the hell do you guys have time to research on over 200+ prospects ... I'm a fan, but to me, researching on prospects, 90% we won't draft, is a waste of time.

Did not have enough information this year to make a decent monday morning quarterback session. Maybe I'll try anyways.

Its a fun game and I'm sure the original poster just phrased it wrongly. Some of you guys should really do some breathing sessions and try to have some fun instead of trying to be preachy habs ultras.

Anyways, last draft I did that was in 2006 and I'm still looking at my fantasy picks. I mainly did it based on magasines evaluation, post draft reading and hype so its really not different than a pool amongst friends. Its a lot of fun!

My last list went like this:

Habs pick - My choices (in 2006)

David Fischer - Patrick Berglund
Ben Maxwell - Nigel Williams
Mathieu Carle - Jesse Joensu
Ryan White - Jonah Anhenlov
Pavel Valentenko - Andrei Popov
Cameron Cepek - No pick from me (I had no idea at this point)

It would have worked out even....I wanted Mike Green in '04 after Top Prospects Game. Hands down, I thought he was best player there. In '03 I wanted I wanted Parise. I attended the World Juniors in Halifax that year, I thought Parise was a sure fire 30 goal guy. That was back in the trap dominated NHL. I liked Seabrooke that year also. For some reason I did not care for Dustin Brown that year. In '05 I wanted Marc Staal, Timmins got me on that one. In '02 and '07 it was a wash...I would have chosen Higgins and McDonagh. Leaning towards Perron over Patches, I thought we needed goals. But it was so close didn't matter to me much at that point. Perron was 19, with only 1 year of QMJHL under his belt also. That was a slight negative to me about him. In '06 I didn't care for Fischer because he gave bad interview and I knew he was 5 years away and #4 d-man at most upside. Was leaning towards Foligno. Looks like I would have missed Giroux also. But Timmins also has the advantages of others scouts for advice, he's at the combine and does the interviews.

People need to relax with the Timgasms. These picks have proven ziltch so far and for all we know everyone could bust.

I agree with this. I usually only start following kids once they've been drafted.

simple solution....

don't post in the thread.

i mean what;s more useless, posting a reply to a thread for fun, or posting to complain in a thread because you don't like how other people have fun?

Am I the only one that think there must be a problem with Schroeder? You don't drop that much when you're ranked that high. Must be a reason he was passed over so many teams after the good combine he had.
