I see a striking resemblance in their development...

From Wiki:
Edler:
Quote:
Alexander Edler was a virtual unknown during his draft year – unranked by the Central Scouting Bureau the entire year. He was brought to the attention of the Vancouver Canucks by the team's head scout in Sweden, Thomas Gradin, who saw Edler playing in Sweden's third-tier league with now-defunct Jamtland. Although Gradin would refer to the team's level of play as little more than beer-league-calibre, he was impressed with Edler and encouraged Canucks management to draft him
Pt totals in his draft year:
2003–04 Jämtland Sweden 24 3 6 9 20

Andersson:
Like Elder, his weak point is his defense, both were known to be more offensive their draft years. Both are big bodies with edler at 6'3 or 4 and andersson at 6'3 to 5. Both relatively unknown and andersson only making a big jump recently. He was playing on the Swedish WJC U-18 team this past spring [Rodin didn't make it i guess]. Andersson also plays in a tougher league than Edler did for these point totals.

Pt totals in his draft year:

2008-2009 Frolunda Jr. SWE-JR. 36 3 5 8 42

Edler made a big jump the year afterwards by playing for Modo in the SuperElit League, i wonder if Andersson will make the jump to Frolunda then. Eliteprospects shows his contract expiring this year, so i also wonder if there is a chance he will be imported...

But personally, i would rather him play in the SEL, than CHL.

^Thanks for the info, but a quick note...Edler didn't play in the SEL. He played for the Modo J20 team in the SuperElitserien, one of the premiere junior leagues in Sweden. According to eliteprospects.com, anyway.

Here's what Gradin says about Andersson:

Quote:
Andersson, 18, is a 6-foot-3, 194 pound blueliner with Frolunda juniors. He had eight points (3-5) in 36 games and a goal in the world under-18 tourney. Gradin compared the Kvidinge, Sweden native to Alex Edler in some respects.

"He's a very good skater who can make that first pass like Edler, but doesn't have the physical attributes and can hopefully develop that part of his game," he said.

This is what i'm always confused about... with all their J-18, J-20, SuperElite etc...

So i'm guessing here is the order:
SEL
J-20 - SuperElit
J-20 - Elit
J-18 - Elit

Saw that, encouraging to see. Hopefully these picks turn out more like Edler as opposed to someone like Nicklas Danielsson.

NO.

He's gonna help Frölunda to their 8th Championship since 2000.

Andersson will most likely be first or second call up from juniors, but he will not play regularly in the SEL.

SEL is the top mens league in Sweden then comes Allsvenskan. The J series is for juniors only ,like the CHL.

in J20 you cant be over 20 years. J18 you cant be over 18 years.
