I'm hoping for Recchi as well.

I'd also like Ty Conklin so we can win the Winter Classic. Although I guess that would mean loosing the Stanley Cup Finals, so nevermind.

Why? May as well get Burke too..

1. Dump Jones or trade Carle
2. Add 3rd line center, face offs and size. Malhotra seems like a good pick, excellent on faceoffs, has that size and skating. 2-2.2M a year.
3. Wait for training camp. Maybe JVR, Nodl or Maroon are ready to go.

1) I doubt Jones AND Carle get moved. My guess its only one of those guys.
2) I do like him. We need one of those kinds of faceoff guys on our third line.
3) I personally doubt seeing JvR make the team. Maroon even farther away. I know Maroon did well, but I only see him as a callup maybe mid season for a few games. Nodl is... not bad but still needs work. I hope for Kalinski and even Ross to get a chance. I think Ross could be a good winger, even though he is really small.

1. I do not understand why people want Recchi back so badly. He was my favorite player as a kid and I even cried when he was traded the first time, but he is not what this team needs. He hustles and still has a knack for finding the back of the net and setting up teammates, but he is not very good defensively anymore, is undersized, aged, and unlikely to sign here.

2. I would love to sign somebody like Pahlsson or Malhotra to anchor our third line and provide much-needed faceoff help. I do not want to see Madden or Peca, however.

3. Obviously, we need another goalie. Niittymaki is my first choice, but he may command more money than we are able to dish out. We need a backup who has the ability to hold down the fort in case the whole Emery experiment doesn't work out.

4. I'd like to keep Carle and trade Jones based solely on their playing ability, but it might actually be better to do the opposite in order to free up cap room (Carle's contract being longer and more expensive than Jones'). I have a feeling the Flyers want to bring back Alberts, which means there won't really be room for both Carle and Jones on the final pairing (I would assume that Parent sticks).

5. If the rumors are true that Holmgren is looking into trading Gagne and he does in fact do so, I will be speechless. He is, in my opinion, our fourth best player behing Richards, Timonen, and Pronger, one of our quiet leaders, our second-best goal scorer and defensive forward (15th in Selke voting in the league) and our longest-tenured player. I don't think any drastic moves need to be made, but I think trading Briere for a cheaper second-line RW to play with Hartnell and Carter would be a nice move. It would give us room to sign the FO-winning center we need and possibly bring back Knuble (though I would like to see him in a 3rd-line role).

1. Trade Jones to Tampa for Steve Downie.
2. Sign a goalie.
3. Sign Mark Recchi
4. Talk Jim Dowd out of retirement.
5. Win Stanley Cup

Some things you gotta ask though is

-Are you willing to give up a third round next year for Alberts? I think if we sign him, we give up the third. So that means, we wont have a pick in the first three rounds. (or am I mistaken and its not a third next year?)

- How much is Knuble? If we need a backup goalie, how much would Knuble as and how much would these backups out there ask, especially ones like Clemmenson.

-We also need a seven D-man and another forward (we lost 2 and gained one if Knuble resigns)

7th D man can be Syvret

And if we lose a pick for Alberts, then I'd rather sign Montador or someone else

Does not apply anymore, we gave Boston our 4th this year.

Why? A 35 year old player that lost a step the last half of the season. Pens can have him.

Plus would you give him a multi-year deal that he wants?

The answer is no.

I think (sadly) that we have to let Knuble walk, because of the fact that we need depth forwards and a 7th defenseman. I think Nodl is here to stay instead for this season.

Gagne - Richards - Briere
Hartnell - Carter - Giroux
Carcillo - Pahlsson - Nodl
Cote - Powe - Asham

Pronger - Coburn
Timonen - Parent
Jones - Alberts

Emery - Conklin

That lineup would still leave enough room for some depth forwards and a 7th defenseman (providing Homer doesn't hand out silly contracts to Pahlsson or Conklin), and a little room for injuries (though not ideal). The only way I can see keeping Knuble is to move BOTH Jones and Carle, and even then it would be tough (and I love Knuble so everyone can save the bashing).

Cross out Nodl and add Shanny or Bertuzzi and I am in.

the 7th can also be Bodrov, as i believe he'll be in camp this year.

Montador sounds like a solid signing, tho i really liked Alberts' size back there.

i also like Malhotra over Pahlsson. he has more size.

I could be wrong, but I thought that was the reason why we didn't have a 4th round pick this year.

If Shanny would sign cheap enough, I would be down with that.

I'd really rather not have Bertuzzi though, and I think we can run with Nodl till the trade deadline either way.

my take on it.

Would rather replace Jones with a cheaper offensive guy like Kostinen, and then keep Knuble

I do like Shanny, but with Bertuzzi... if we arent already the most hated team in the league, this would be icing on the cake. I dont think we would play 5v5 hockey anymore. It would all be 5v4 or 5v3 lol.

Yea, I'm down with it.

For the record, I do NOT want to lose Knuble, I just think we're in tough to keep him. If we can lose both Carle and Jones and make it happen, then I'd be happy to have Knuble retire a Flyer. I'm just not convinced we can pull it off, so I've braced myself for the disappointment of losing Mike.

Bertuzzi?

That would so comical: Hartnell, Asham, Carcillo, Cote, Bertuzzi, Pronger, Emery.

What a bunch of delinquents.

************

As far as Recchi and Peca are concerned, I think their too slow for the task we need them to fill. Malhotra is younger, and better faceoff guy. Unfortunately, he'll also a larger contract.
