Fifth-Rounder: Mark Adams (D - Malden Catholic, USHS)

Will play for the Chicago Steel of the USHL and is committed to play for Providence College with little Velischek.

All I could find:

Quote:
Adams is a 6'2 207 lb. physical force on the ice that has great passing and play making ability. Adams is committed to play at Providence College.
http://www.chicagosteelhockeyteam.co...09/5-13-09.php

From Bakes' site:

Quote:
The Buffalo Sabres have selected 6'2, 207-pound defenseman Mark Adams with pick #134 of the 2009 draft.

Adams played at Malden Catholic the past three seasons, leading his club to the Super 8 semifinals in 2009. Physical and very involved offensively at the high school level, Adams is projected as a strong, smart two-way type of defender as a pro.

Adams was selected in the 3rd round of the USHL draft by the Chicago Steel where he may decide to toil for a season before joining Providence of Hockey East. As of now though, he looks to be a Friar this fall.

Nicknamed "Roo", Adams is the first D1 player from Malden to go NCAA D1 since Keith Tkachuk.
Nicknamed "Roo" for ... I don't know what for, actually

So, does anyone have any other info on this guy? Adams seems like the forgotten man here.

As much as info as that other Adams defenseman from Mass.

Guess ol John and Quincy informed their descendants to keep things on the down-low.

Where was he projected/ranked? Has anyone seen him play? I'm guessing not, since he's a HSer, but it's worth a shot in the dark.

really, really good wheels, likes to get involved with the offense. can play a physical game. he's into it, and he'll only get better under the guidance of Tim Army. Good pick.

He wasn't ranked by CSB.

Sounds like a 2-way guy in the mold of Lydman.

Unranked, huh? I hate asking this since the Sabres use so much video, but is there a scout assigned to these USHS/USHL-type guys?

I think more Butler than Lydman. The Sabres are right there with the Rags and Bruins in terms of scouting New England HS. All teams have a body in the USHL/Midwest, including the Sabres.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like he's definitely on a 5 year plan, which is fine by me.

Hey Bakes, any of your contemporaries out there in the blog-o-sphere have anything on this kid?

I'm hoping Kirk can expand the opinion, but it's all good things that I'm hearing right now. Skating is huge asset, likes to shoot and jump up. Defensively solid. The scholarship to Providence is good endorsement for sure.

Kirk was one of the guys who had me high on Kreider, so I'd love to see what he has to say about "Roo".

I believe Devine said that they never saw this kid play but took him on a recommendation from his coach, I could have heard wrong though.

In that shootout video it's pretty obvious the kid has a nice set of wheels. He might be a pretty good long-term guy.

I'm curious as to the reasoning behind playing in Chicago for a year vice going straight to Providence...is it due to Providence having a surplus of players already on scholarship causing the wait or is it due to Providence feeling that he needs some additional seasoning before skating for the Friars?

Is that official? I thought I read that there was a chance he goes to PC next year...

Right now he's slated for Chicago, but there's nothing officially saying that he won't be in Providence next season.

It's because he is a Junior in High School. He committed early.

Hey there. Just found out you guys drafted this kid. He is a player. My nephew was a senior on Malden Catholic this year and I watched this kid play every game. From what i saw he is an extremely good skater with above average offensive ability for a D-man. He was not afraid to jump up in the play and was head and shoulders the best defender in that league. Not sure how his game translates to the NHL level, but from what my nephew tells me that this kid lives hockey. Which IMO bodes well for any team that will use him as a project.

Was he held back a grade?

His birthday is 5/21/91 (18yrs old) , 9 days younger than my son who just graduated from highschool.

I'd rather this kid play in USHL this year and Providence next year. Take your time bud.
