Thrashers extend Anssi Salmela

Thanks to a Finnish poster on the Thrashers "official" board. 2 yr one-way contract. He seemed to have a pretty good tourney at the Worlds.

Solid signing. He's a good 'prospect', hopefully he can continue to develop into an NHL regular.

Atlanta locks in their 3rd pairing offensive guy to play with Valabik or Exelby.

Now onto signing/trading for the defensive guy to play with Ron Hainsey.

I think the Bogosian/Enstrom pairing is in decent shape...I dunno, I just have a feeling that most teams would be okay with that pair.

I was a little nervous about him staying in the US, so good to see him locked up for a few years. I think playing under Anderson's system has really helped him feel more comfortable at the NHL level.

Anssi is still learning the NA game and when he gets better in the defensive department he will be a solid NHLer. Now you can say that it was great trade by ATL.

For what it's worth, reports of the signing have finally been published in English.

Good signing for Atlanta and Salmela. He can definitely play full-time in Atlanta where he can finally get experience and help that defense out.

OT, but there was a translation of a Russian news report regarding Zhitnik signing with Dynamo posted on the Thrashers board last summer.

"It became free agent after club it advanced it on the glass rod of failures."

Online translators are very amusing. And I really, really love the term "glass rod of failures."

Hmmm he had the same amount of points in about half the number of games he did in NJ.

That Havelid trade is looking worse and worse.
