It's an interactive site that lets you tinker with rosters and has a bunch of nifty features. Check it out. Their daily cap tracker feature is represented below, as my own attempts to keep track have typically ended in miserable failure.
Most of the Pens entry level contracts have bonus clauses of 82 games played to bring them up to entry level max so the player will get the max signing bonus. But as soon as the the first NHL game is played their cap hit drops. For instance a player like Grant may have an NHL salary of 600,000 with a bonus of 275,000 if he plays all 82 games. As soon as that first NHL game is played, and he's not in it, his cap hit is lowered. I think all their entry level contracts are like that except Tangrady, who's contract was given out by the some other team and Letangs.

He must know Bylsma well. I just never felt like he was given a fair shot, and he wasn't given any after MT was gone (not that there was any room to mess around with the roster at that point).

i think he'll see if he gets any bites on a one-way contract in the next few days. i don't think he'll get one, though, so there's a chance he could be back.
The Zigomanis thing is a bit of a depressing note. I think we could really use a solid faceoff guy to put on the ice in key situations, and he was a good 4th line center as well as PK guy.

Yeah, that seems very likely. I doubt any NHL team would give him one, so if he's comfortable then why not?
Maybe he'll actually get more than four shifts a game on the rare occasion he makes the line-up.
Zigomanis would have been nice, but we have young guys that are ready I think to play that type of a role like Jeffrey, so it shouldn't kill us. All in all, can't complain about anythign that has happened so far.

the pens still own all of their NHL rights, but it's hard to imagine any of them coming over at this point. i think there are a few other incredibly random russians -- isakov, malenkykh -- in the same boat.
i guess i still keep salmonsson on the chart because he was a second-round pick. should probably dump anshakov and ehelechner from it one of these days.
I think if they don't re-sign Zigomanis it's a mistake. Not a colossal mistake or anything, but a mistake none-the-less.
Only thing that I can come up with is if they plan on putting Talbot back on that 4th line, but he's overqualified for such a role.
Otherwise, I don't see much competition for that spot and I think we're going to be hurting in the face-off circle yet again. Usually teams that win the Stanley Cup don't have many glaring weaknesses, but the Penguins most obvious one is and will probably continue to be face-offs. And it can be drastically improved without breaking the bank or giving up any assets.

What if Lidstrom's shot would have went in and we end up losing in game 7? We couldn't win a faceoff at the end of that period. Zigomanis was cleanly beating Zetterberg at the end of that 7-6 OT game. I don't get this move, especially with Adams only at .550 I thought that would open the door to get him signed as well.

I use that game as a clear reason why Zigomanis is worth more than we think around here. He cleanly won 2 faceoffs that lead directly to goals, and one of them was the GTG w/ 30 seconds left.
That's not a luxury... that's what winning team's do.
Bill Thomas was getting to be awesome on the draws before MT got fired. DB didn't seem as high on him as MT and sent him down as soon as he was hired. I guess BT doesn't do much else than win draws good. Does Ziggy? He didn't seem to be that physical to me and I don't remember him blocking a lot of shots or anything. He just seemed like a face off guy, but was kinda soft too, not much grit.

what if it was ziggo out there, and he lost the draw too... and wasn't quick enough or determined enough to try and block lidstrom shot and gave nick more room to hit the net tying the game up.
Don't assume Molinari has any real information about Zigomanis. Based on his story it looks like 100% guess. What his agent says doesn't mean squat, as we saw last summer. Agents will say anything to turn up the pressure to negotiate, etc. They are basically shifty ******** where everything they say must be taken with a tablespoon of salt.

in general, i agree with you. but i think in this case, we've seen it mentioned a few times in the PG and trib that it was going to be one of either adams or zigomanis. i'd imagine shero intimated as much to reporters.
If we can retain Feds and sign any of: Gionta (not sure how much room NJ has now after signing Oduya to a pretty pricey deal (around $3M per); Beauchemin; or Kotalik, I'd be pretty damn happy we did all we could to shore up the roster for a Cup defense. Kotalik is not an ideal fit but he'd be more effective over the course of a season than either an aging Satan or Sykora (who, let's face it: they're not going to play with the same intensity during the regular season). Thus we would have improved our team some over last year.
...would still be a better team than having Satan and Sykora on those RW slots. I know Max can do more than 4th line but OTOH having a guy with some added confidence down there, playing with a rookie C, could be a big help and add some 4th line scoring.

Get both Gionta and Zanon somehow and we will be sitting very pretty indeed. Otherwise take a risk and put Lovejoy in Zanon's spot and see how it goes. If we have to get a FA at the deadline so be it.
