I know JvR probably isn't ready but I could also see him working with Carter and Hartnell. This is a much better team then the one we had going in to the playoffs.
I think Carle will have a great year playing with Pronger but I can also see him being traded for checking line center.

Sign Recchi 1 year 1.5 so JVR can have a year in the minors and be a call up
Sign Betts for around 800,000 or so for faceoffs and PK
I'd rather keep Carle over Jones, but Carle has a longer contract and more $$ so lose him somehow and resign Alberts for about the same salary
Sign backup for around 1 million
Them numbers added into the current salary come out to somewhere around $54 to $55 million...

Guys, two things.
The chances JVR plays even a half season are slim, and I'm fine with that. The key is you can't figure him into your plans at this point.
Second, we are not signing Knuble, Recchi and Betts. We have too many young guys who will get a chance, so only try to anticipate one or two signings, tops. We could field a whole squad right now, and believe me, these young guys will get a chance.
Why are people saying we should pick up Betts for faceoffs? He is not good at faceoffs. His FO% last season was 49.3, which was about the same as Richards and barely better than Carter.
It would take some ridiculously good negotiating but I think if we are able to sign Knuble, Recchi and Alberts and dump Jones for a bag of chips we would have a top 9 as good as last season and a much better defense. Goalie is up in the air. We would have no wiggle room again though.
i think his contract is a big reason why he is disdained but yeah he isn't a great dman to put it lightly, however, for a #6 at a reasonable price is any worse then other guys that have been mentioned like walker or montador?

I would be fine with Gauthier on a cheaper contract as a #6. He is good in the locker room and if he isnt playing more than 8-9 minutes a game can be effective. He was playing too much when he was here before.
These are the kind of players that you need on your third pairing in the cap era....or a rookie.
I especially dont mind with the top 4 we now have who will probably suck up about 50 minutes a game anyway

We don't really have numbered lines. The 3 scoring lines would get equal ES minutes. Keep Recchi off the PK and PP (which he's not needed for), and he would be fine.

Q. Do you think Daniel Carcillo or Cote will be moved, obviously we dont need both.
A. Ed Moran: I don't see Cote with the Flyers next year. Does that mean they move him or send him down. Who knows, what his market value after last season?

Knuble only plays 3rd line minutes so he can be on top PK and PP units to take wear and tear off of Hartnell, Richards, Gange, Carter on the PK side of things. the 3rd line C who is ???? will help with this as well on PK relief. Point is 3rd line become a shutdown D minded line. No more rolling 3 scoring lines... We cant just hope to outscore teams anymore though Pronger will help. And yes Cote makes opening day roster. Its not like anyone on the phantoms will learn anything or grow as a player on how this team gives 4th line their minutes.

Yeah, but Powe is more of a "3rd line" type player, JVR is pure offense and a big guy at that, those types of guys usually take a while to adjust to the NHL.
Either way, I want Briere and Giroux as my top 2 RWs.

Initially I was not going to include JVR but without another legit big body I think he gets into this lineup. (Was hoping for J. Ward or second choice Knubs but oh well).
I know Stevens said he wants to keep the Harts-Carts, Gagne-Richards, and Briere-Giroux pairings together, but realistically, I don't think he has too much choice at this point.

Then you have a bottom-6 of Laperriere, Asham, Carcillo, Powe anchoring it which ain't bad.
Well, I guess it may finally be time to give up the idea of going with three scoring lines. It was my favorite thing about this team for a while, but with some of the recent changes, it looks like it'll likely make more sense to stack the top two and go with a more traditional checking third.
I struggle a little bit with moving Giroux to wing, just cuz I think he did such a fantastic job as a center...he even did pretty well on face-offs. However, I guess I should just chalk that up to the fact that he is ****ing awesome, and realize that he may be better off on the wing.
Maybe Nodl would be ready to secure a spot on the third line...I don't know though. I'm not too high on him. He's a pretty smart player and does some good things, but I'll be shocked if he develops any real offensive threat. He's not incredible defensively and doesn't bring any physical presence either.
I'm a bit unsure about how the bottom six should stack up overall. Quite frankly, I have little use for Carcillo...especially now that we have Laperriere. I just don't think Carcillo is much of a player, in any regard really. How about they move him for the rights to Upshall? I'll be anxious to see what Scottie signs for.
