The cap hit sucks. I would rather give them 10 years if it meant keeping it in the 5m range.

You DO realize there are probably upwards of 20 teams ALSO looking to sign Hossa and Gaborik... we can't just snap our fingers and gaurantee they'll sign here. Where as with the Sedin's we could.

That's fair value for players who've put up the points they have on a consistent basis.

So basically this will be the same team as last year with a replacement for Ohlund.

Lucky to get out of the first round if they make it.

Man I really wanted to see what else the Canucks would be willing to do.

Here's the current cap situation now:

D.Sedin (6.1) - H.Sedin (6.1) - Burrows (2.0)
Demitra (4.0) - Kesler (1.75) - XXX
Raymond (0.76) - Hodgson (0.875) - Bernier (2.0)
Hordichuk (0.75) - Johnson (1.15) - Hansen (??)
Rypien (0.55)

Mitchell (3.5) - Salo (3.5)
Edler (3.25) - Bieksa (3.75)
SOB (???) - XXX
XXX

Luongo (6.75)
XXX

Total cap hit - 46.785 (not including any bonuses)

Now get a ****ing defenseman, Gillis.
Dont compare the Sedins with the worst contract in the league. The Sedins are making more than even Hossa has asked for.

With them done, time to move onto the next pressing need, a dman.

Still lots of cap space left.

Perhaps a couple hundred thousand more than I would have liked, but it's certainly not an overpayment.

I'm glad they're back.

This is all Toronto's fault! We would have had them at a lower price if they hadn't tampered! I demand compensation!

What are you hearing Hossa asked for? The rumor was he wanted 7+ years with 7M per.

A little more than I would have liked but it's still reasonable. Glad to have them back.

I like this contract! They may be making 6.1 per year but I definately think the Canucks would have been in way bigger trouble, despite the fact Gillis would have the extra cash. Daniel and Henrik are part of this team's core and I'm glad to have them back for another 5 years!

10.8 million with players left to sign. I dont anticipate fixing our defense with that. We're still missing a 2nd line center. I do hope Gillis finds a way.

6.1 is fine. Personally I wish they would've taken a bit less for the team, like 5.5, but there's not much you can do. People give GM's all the credit in the world when they sign a player to a great contract, but really it more takes the willingness of the player to get those deals done. If the Sedins didn't want to play ball then the only thing Gillis can do is take them for what they're asking or let them walk for nothing.

Let's just hope that Luongo and Kesler are a bit more agreeable to a favorable contract extension. Right now the Sedins are eating up about $2M more cap space than what they bring to the table, we don't want that number to grow any more.

As a flames fan, i think this is an excellent singing on Vancouver's part. The Sedins are pretty much PPG with improving/consistent stats, but the thing is they make whoever they're playing with produce as well.

I think to alot of outsiders, the Sedins' value is very clear since they always score on us. 6.1 is not low by any means, but in the coming years, it will be easily justified. Plus, a 5 year term is very very good.

Congrats Vancouver!

So that's about 7 million (leaving around $2 million to handle injuries - course if we had Sutter as GM, this is an irrelevant consideration ) to fill-in 4 spots (two of which are likely to be held by guys making between 500K & a million). Guessing SOB will be making around a million (he ain't worth much more than that at this point in his career).

Still leaves cap room for one decent UFA.

Question is, who to go for?

Situation changes though if Gillis by some miracle is able to sign Scott Niedermayer (as a D-Man will be moved).

Letting the twins walk for a chance at signing Hossa and Gaborik is like quitting a steady job so you can play poker online.

Great job Gillis!

I think we're only looking at 6 more contracts to fill (including Hansen and SOB, who are somewhat limited in their options).

Meet the new core, same as the old core.

I like them, unfortunately the team just got worse than it was last year.

8 left to sign?

I see about 4 roster spots left to fill.

10 million can get you a solid offensive forward, a good dman and scrubs.

25 man roster? Is Gillis the bizzaro version of Sutter?

The real fun (re: the cap) is NEXT season.
