Per TSN, the deal is for seven years, average of $3.75 per year.

Agreed, but I'd bet it's front loaded so they can get out of the later years for a modest (>600k) cap hit.

Their defense is not so bad anymore. Ohlund, Hedman, Meszaros, Wishart, Welch, etc. Not a disaster.

Don't forget their premiere player, Matt Lashoff!

Have to remember, while it's 7 years, it gives Hedman a Swedish mentor. Nice pickup.

I have always like Ohlunds game. Smooth skater, very good passer, good shooter, plays physically enough.

But 7 years is assinine.

As anyone who follows the West will tell you, he has been on the decline for 2 and a half years.

If he has ANY value after the 2nd year of this deal, I will be absolutely shocked. , He should give them a good couple seasons....at least compared to most of what they have.

Only reason they gave 7 years is to cut the AAV. But if he is washed up after 2 years, as many think he will be, then the remainder of his salary, even if he gets bought out will be a terrible albatross for the Lightening.

I like the player....I dont like the signing terms.

$3.5M for Ohlund who, since J-Bo is off the market, was the best dman available, is a real bargain, and hopefully will be a trend indicator- I mean, how could Morris or Beachemin ask for $4, when a better player in Ohlund got $3.5?

Wow - got to love this as a Bruins fan. Would much rather they re-sign that stiff than Hossa.

Solid signing, a pretty young team hanging on to one of their veterans.

Roloson is going to test Free Agency meaning the oilers are going to be looking for a #1 tender. Maybe they will pick up MFMF???

I don't expect to see Welch ever wear a lightning jersey again, he was terrible, Wishart is still very young, likely won't play much this year.

The D will likely look like

Hedman-Ohlund
Ranger-Meszaros
Smaby-Lashoff
-Krajicek
