I'd rather Niitty at $1.5 then Boucher at 750k

I have just as little if not less faith in Nitty's ability to play as a playoff starter in the NHL, so I'd rather go with the cheap version in that scenario.

Hm... so you have more faith with Boucher in playoffs then Nitty?

Yes. At the very least, he has experience in the playoffs. For the cost, I'd much rather put my money on Boucher with the potential to implode, than double the price for Nitty who always implodes when he gets the starting job.

If it came to it, I have no idea why anyone would ever trust Brian Boucher. A few years ago we had so much faith in him, we let him play on the Phantoms on an AHL contrac, not an NHL one.

If other price themselves out then so be it, but there is absolutely zero reason to sign him at 1pm tomorrow.

For an organization that can never find a goalie, do they ever think "Gee, we got rid of them once already..."

As a potential insurance policy in town if Biron and Nitty blew up, and as a favor to a guy that they were familiar with and needed to play games. You're reading WAY too much into his AHL contract and what it said and did not say about the Flyers thoughts concerning him when they had two NHL goalies under contract.

Of course, if they'd had him on a NHL contract he would have had to go through waivers and may not have been able to reach the club anyway.

If you want him on a cheap contract...then you want him. If they aren't even looking at some other options that makes me think there not even considering dumping salary in Carle/Jones, which is a larger problem here.

And there not going to find him this offseason, so I'm not sure why a 1-year contract on a guy you expect to be your backup is such a travesty along these lines. This would be a valid point if they were signing him to be that guy.

On that position...you're counting on the clock on the time bomb that is Ray Emery to not hit zero. Which is fine, there are a lot of people who have all faith in the world that it won't happen, but it's kind of silly to not be prepared in case it does.

We've seen plenty of time when our backup in September becomes our starter in April. Hell, it's even happened with Boucher both ways.

I'd rather see if we can't get someone who has the potential to...not leave in 2010-11.

Well, we're basically going to spend 1.25M on our backup goalie maximum...that's going to leave a lot of the other options at the store. I don't disagree that Emery makes the backup a premium position, but the reality is that this is the hand we're going to be dealt.

Who...? Frankly, I don't want to be tied into the goaltending for next season...past next season. It's a **** sandwich and hopefully it either proves me wrong, or we can move away from it when it proves me right as quickly as possible.

Especially considering Booosh put up decent numbers with the Sharks and Phantoms over the past two seasons. Quality backup on the cheap with no injury concerns (that we know of). Seems like a solid choice to me.

I'd love these numbers as our backup:
2008–09 22 12 6 3 1,291 47 2 2.18 .917

I agree, but it is worth noting that he was backing up Nabakov, not Emery.

We should just sign Ty Conklin so he can play in the Winter Classic, again.

I just found the team in the West I'll be following next season...

I honestly don't know which I prefer, Pronger @ 6.25 or J-Bo at 6.68? Pronger has experience, lots of it, J-Bo is just downright good and has a bright future.

Pronger can teach a lot to our defense though. Except for Jones. You can't un-teach suck.

I'd really rather see Conklin than Boucher or any number of iffy back ups that have already been named.

I think if Emery is our #1 for sure, then we ought to get an old vet who he'd have to respect (if he is capable of such a thing). Someone like Kolzig would be great, not that I think that would happen.

It would be nice if Pronger would teach Sbisa but Sbisa is no longer here. Flyers must re-sign Pronger and his wife. Otherwise a very bad deal. We already overpaid as it is.

Sedins re-up

5 years $6.1 per EACH

Ohlund to Tampa

7 years $3.75 per (suspect it's front loaded)

Heater deal to EDM is not dead yet

Apparently he gets a $4 million signing bonus as of 12:01AM Thursday. So it looks like this trade has a time limit...
