To that extent, Tallon didn't rule out the possibility of signing former defenseman Chris Chelios, who was told by the Red Wings on Monday that he would not return with Detroit after 10 years there. The Chicago native was a mainstay with the Hawks during the 1990s and at 47 is the NHL's oldest player.
"I'm sure Chris will be calling and I'm sure we'll be talking," Tallon said. "We have other things to take care of before we get into that. I love Chris, he's a great guy. He might help our young guys, who knows? We haven't discussed anything with anyone yet."
I can see the horror on everyone's faces on this. But he has to be better than Walker... He did say that he wants to return to the Blackhawks organization, whether or not it is as a player. A Hall of Fame D-Man is never a bad thing to have associated with your organization.
I think having him signed to the league min. and playing him 20-30 games this season could really help bring along our young guys. If nothing else, he's a leader and wears the love of the game on his sleeve. Not to mention he's my all time fav...
No. No. No. No. NO! How in HELL can you expect Chicago to welcome back someone who jumped ship to go to DETROIT!? Not to mention someone who is nearly 50 years old?! Seriously... SERIOUSLY?! We are worried about having the cap room to sign Kane/Toews, but we are considering bringing Chelios back!? What the ????
While I can't stand to be away from hockey all season (and thus cannot find it in my heart to boycott the team), I *will* be bringing a sign to EVERY game proclaiming the suckiness of both Chelios AND his chilli... and I will boo to my hearts' delight every time he touches the ice. I fear he WILL be back so he can "retire a Blackhawk".. but I will NOT be happy about it.
