Looks like a mini-SOB. I'm liking these gritty players that can play that Gillis is amassing.

Edit: Oh wait, if this is a one way then that's brutal. I like Rome but I'd like him a lot more on the Moose.

On the plus side, it's gonna be awesome having Rome and Pope in the system at the same time.

Depth defensemen we needed.

Gillis, I'm awaiting another top six defensemen and top six forward.

Get used to it.

I have never even heard of this guy. He can't be any good if he didn't make the Jackets full time.
Make sure you post this exact same thing when we sign somebody you have heard of for consistencies sake.

Who cares if it's a one way? Maybe it's something they worked out with Manitoba similar to last year with Krog? Regardless... the team can more than afford to pay him 500k to play in the minors if he doesn't make the big club.. no big deal.

Alright, I think that's enough, ignore list for you. My it's grown in the last few days.

You know you need help when your freaking out over a minimum wage, depth defenseman that will have little to no impact on the cap or the teams future. It's like saying a BMW is a terrible car because the cup holders are too small.

Why? Are you paying him? What do you care if he makes his full contract in the AHL?

I think he'll end up being in Lawrence Nycholat's role.

It hardly matters if it's a one-way. If he doesn't pan out, he gets waived.

Sounds like a useful 7/8 depth addition. I trust Gillis and his player evaluation much more so than the previous regime

Your telling me you'd rather have this guy with 28 games experience rather than Davison with 218?

1 way deal is quite interesting.

Almost seems to be a Gillis strategy to sign the depth guys for cheap by enticing them with a one way deal.

As long as Aquilini is OK with eating their salaries in the minors if necessary, then no harm done I suppose.

If that is what they're doing, I don't follow the logic at all. These are non-cap salary expenses: if they want to overspend the cap it seems they should be doing it for players that can make a meaningful difference, not for scrubs who will spend 90% of their playing time anywhere but in a Canuck uniform.

Perhaps there is some kind of arrangement with Manitoba necessitating this...

Let's not forget that with our defence the way it is we're likely going to carry 8 defencemen all season long again. So Rome likely fits in the 7 or 8 spot on our team next season.

It's a one way one year deal worth 550k.

Why does this signing prevent us from signing Davison again? Of course that's assuming the Canucks will even want to, I mean, who is going to eat all that popcorn in the press box for us!?

The 1 way deal was probably the clincher to get him. League minimum for a seventh defenseman is fine. It fills one hole while leaving slightly more cash for other positions.

Maybe Rome is a better player than Davison...? Or are we judging talent now based on number of games played?

Have you seen Rome play?

And those of you crying about not knowing who he is - not every UFA signing is going to be a blockbuster. GM's stock up on depth via free agency as well. Quit being stupid.

Rob Davison wanted to test UFA to see if he could get more playing time elsewhere.

When you have trouble getting playing time on a weak Columbus defence, doesn't sound good to me.

We'll see what he does this year with his 15-20 games.

The Aquilinis seem to be ok with spending money like in the short term, but don't want to commit long term to it. He's a very depth signing for the Canucks, but would be a significant impact player for the Moose.

How much NHL-level salary is coming off the Canucks AHL books this season? Like $3m?

I do have a sneaking suspicion that the Moose management had something to do with this - 26 games playing limited minutes isn't a lot of time for an NHL scout to really pick up on. And the benefits that the Canucks have received from the Moose in the last few years more than make up for spending a little NHL salary down there.

Aqualini or the Moose is picking up his tab and no one else is.
It does not effect the ticket price or the price of PPV or popcorn... so who gives a shiit

Yeah mine too.

I tried to stop using it.. but I just couldn't stomach some of the crap.
Boards are readable again for me tho.

Looks like a no.7 Dman. I'm guessing Gillis' scouting army feels this guy can pull it off as a bottom pairing injury replacement for us.

I remember Rome from his WHL days, he looked like an allstar there. Good size, not overly tall but very thick, decent wheels, good fighter and some hand skills. Frankly I thought he would make a solid NHL player with a little seasoning.

Obviously some holes in his game or he wouldnt have been let go, but I think there is a little something there to work with, might be a good moneyball pickup.
