Glad to have him back.

As far as I'm concerned, anything over 30 is a vet, especially since players start at age 18.

We sure do have the money for a 1b goalie if we don't have other bloated contracts in Jones and Carle.

Boucher did do that...almost 10 years ago. The guy is barely AHL caliber, and he only has good numbers because he was on such a great (regular) season team last year. Take a look at his number and his play that landed him in the Phantoms a few years ago.

GKJ, let me ask you this..would you rather roll with Boucher(a proven vet who can play 20-30 quality games a year) or Backlund(a rook with 0 NHL experience) this year?

Offer an option that meets the budget requirements of this club, please.

I don't disagree that the goaltending situation is problematic for a team that just made a "win now" trade, but it is what it is, and under those constraints your line of criticism is unrealistic until they start moving out other bodies.

We could have the money if Holmgren smartened up. And, yes, given the fact that Emery is such ? the backup goalie really does need to be a 1B if you are really thinking about winning anything...he needs an insurance policy.

Very happy with this one. I have faith in emery. He has real accountability now in the guy we just signed (Pronger.)

The fact is, it didn't really matter who we signed at this point. If Emery craps the bed, we are pretty much screwed anyway. At least a decent cheap backup gives us a little breathing room to make a couple other moves.

Craig Anderson would been much better option. I know we don't have much cap space, but Anderson only got $100K more than Emery and with an extra year, which is exactly the contract I would have given to him.

I would argue that Boucher is still a flame out. There's a reason he we got rid of him the first time. Because he sucks.

I would have preferred Anderson also.

However, if Emery sucks, we WILL make a trade.

We NEED to move Briere. BAD.

Anderson instead of Emery? Anderson is as much as a question mark as Emery. How would Anderson play when playing a full season then his 20 or so games...

He played 31 last year, and did just fine.

I like Bouch, but he's the kind of guy you want backing up a REAL #1.

We have a question mark with potential in Emery. I would have liked to bring in another guy with upside so that the chances of one of our two goalies really playing well is more likely.

booooosshhhhh love it for our cap space. Hes proven and you know what your getting. Great move by homer. Keep it cheap, now find us a solid 3rd line D minded center and decent winger who can eat up some PK time and we are golden.

If the flyers dont make it to the finals and its the goalies that are the fault. then yell all you want. With Pronger in a flyers uniform with kimmo parent coburn heh...(jones and carle). Our goalies should never be expected to make more then a huge save more then 2 times a game. If emery and or boucher cant do that then this team is not playing right infront of the goalie.

I don't disagree, I'd rather have Anderson...but we have Emery and that decision was already in place PRIOR to deciding to sign Boucher. The criticism should be of the original thought process, but given the fact that Emery is already signed, the Boucher deal isn't all that bad.

If Emery flames out you can have Boucher as a backup for cheap next year and actually invest a bit more in a starting goalie.

While you can question Anderson's effectiveness as a starter (you can apply the same to Emery, btw, who only has one good NHL season), you don't have the track record (yet) with Anderson of poor decision making and recklessness. Not really one and the same.

I wouldn't say that he sucks, but he was hardly the best backup option out there.

That said, he put up good numbers on a very good San Jose team mostly playing against the weaker NHL teams.

However, maybe the third time is the charm for Boucher, but I am concerned that the Flyers now have two mental midgets for goaltenders.

Love the fact that it's more than a single year. Going into next year with the same double goalie need wasn't an appealing thought.
