As much as he "sucked" he was the only goaltender to get us that close to the cup since Hextall

Nitty should sign in the KHL...and he should definitely sign in the Southeast so he could at least pad his stats against Atlanta.

Smart move by Atlanta, as they'll probably get 4-6 more points in the standings by not having Nitty elsewhere.

And he stole it to begin with from a guy who was on a huge contract. Pete DeBoer was going with who was winning for him. Anderson more than proved he's at least a platoon guy.

EDIT: Also, I bet they grab a C.

Gagne-Richards-Briere
Hartnell-Carter-Giroux
Powe-FA-Asham
Carcillo-AHL-Nodl

Coburn-Timonen
Pronger-Carle
Jones-Parent

Emery
Boucher

AHL includes Kalinski, Matsumoto and other Training Camp surprises.
We arent winning crap with a third line of Asham and Powe unless that FA you have listed is Malkin!

As Jester says below, we need to move at least Carle, preferrably Carle and Jones for some forward depth.

I would go with

Hartnell Carter Briere
Gagne Richards Giroux (Might be the best two-way line in the league)
????? ?????? Nodl (Give the guy a shot, assuming he is good in camp)
Carcillo Powe Asham

I want Malhotra as my 3rd center and somone like Moen as the LW....Not sure if they would both fit under the cap.

Pronger Parent (Wow, what a shut down pair)
Coburn Timonen (Timonen no longer has to waste his talent being a shut down guy)
?????? ??????? (one of these should be either svyret or Bartilus, the other a veteran)

Boucher is another in a long line of Flyers goalies who start off their career well, and as soon as they have one bad year the team gives up on them and ships them off.... At any rate is now a very good back up goalie.

Someone should make a sign as in american presidential campaigns, but instead of red and blue it should be orange and black and read

EMERY
Boucher
2009-10

So then why should we want him? It's not even like decent numbers on bad teams. Everyone's right that he can get crazy hot (which happens with anyone).

He can also get crazy cold -- possibly to the point where he gets waived (which has happened to him). And we saw this season just what people think of players who get waived - which in and of itself is hilarious to see the double standard here.

OK, GKJ, you're acting like I think that our goaltending is effing fantastic, when the truth of the matter is that I think Holmgren is an idiot. I hate the Emery signing...but, where we differ, is that if you're going with Emery as your starter, then signing Boucher for $925K makes complete and utter sense, and is a smart signing.

If you want to criticize the deal, identify another backup you'd really have confidence in that we could sign for $925K or less. If you can find a good option, I'm all with you for criticizing this move. I'm betting you can't. Craig Anderson is not and was not an option.

I wasn't trying to make you look like you're glorifying this, I think we're on the same page on where the goaltending situation stands. If everyone prices themselves out, then so be it. Anderson was not going to sign here for that, but I don't know why we couldn't compete for that offer, other things obviously need to fall in place, but this isn't going to be the only thing the Flyers do this off-season anyways, so why should I assume that this is was the only way to go? Which is why I said in another thread, that if we had to go to Boucher, it doesn't need to be done on July 1.

In fact, I don't even know why Boucher should be even getting $925K.

You can find a lot of things I liked as recent as the 2008 Draft, it kind of went south between the time we picked Sbisa and traded for Eminger.

Khabibulin just signed for 3.75 per year....We couldnt get Biron for less than that???

As for Eminger, funny how he played pretty well after leaving here.....

I would have LOVED Khabby at that price.

Unbelievable. I thought he was gonna be like 4 or 5 per.

We could have competed for Anderson, but we signed Emery...the ship had sailed.

And the problem with the final point is that free agency is like musical chairs, you don't want to get caught with nothing at the end of the day...and this wasn't a "risky" signing against the cap, so whatever.

Look no further than Biron to see how cruel free agency can be.

He showed himself to be an adequate backup in the NHL last season...that's going to earn you at least 925K, which is nothing considering how important the goaltending position is...which is why going cheap as a matter of philosophical approach is such a dumb move by Holmgren.

Funny how Eminger got traded again and then wasn't even given a qualifying offer.

If he signs somewhere else, that's 5 NHL teams in less than 2 years.
