Soft goals, not making the big saves when the team needs them. He had one great run of games when nothing was at stake for the team. NYI couldn't rely on Danis as a 1B.

It was widely reported that he wanted a 2 year deal and the Oilers just wouldn't give it to him.

As for people saying he's over the hill...

28-24-9
0.915 save%(17th in league)

People may not like his antics but he stops the puck and is still a legit #1 goalie.

Are the Oilers gonna sign someone like Huet or are they counting on Deslauriers?

Like anyone really cares what you'd rather have had the Isles land

This is a good signing

He said all along he wanted a two-year deal, and Edmonton offered a one-year. For a guy of Roloson's age, that makes perfect sense, because this might be his last contract. For Roloson, 2x2.5M$ > 1x3M$ or whatever.

Without the quality of play he gave the oilers last year they would have for sure been in the draft lottery. He played very well for most of last year.

The absolute right move. The best goalie they could get for the shortest term and the Isles needed a goalie desperatly because diPietro won´t be ready to play more than 30-40 games next season and Roloson is a reliable goalie who can play the other 40-50 games. The Isles will still be a bottom feeder, but when the team is healthy they will be a lot better than last year.

No, it's not.

Neither is one Cup in 69 years, huh?...

...Or a decade+ of humorous free agent signings in Manhattan each July 1st (awating more today!)

Solid signing, assuming Snow told Roloson that if Dipietro somehow is healthy, Dwayne will have to accept playing a limited amount of games. Regardless, NYI upgraded significantly in net today.

As for him being over the hill: the extent to which some use Date of Birth rather than on-ice production as a barometer of one's ability is insufferable.

I think he is really going to push DiPietro for the starting job or at the very least split duties. I'm not Roalie the goalie fan, but he is a competitive guy.

63 games played last year, 28-wins and a .915 win percentage on sub par Oilers team. He played like every game the last two months of the season from what i remember.

They should try to sign Biron. They wanted him a few years ago. He's a nice guy with a super positive attitude. He'd be a breath of fresh air to that franchise.

The problem the Oilers are in is that everyone available should be nothing more than a short term answer in goal and I doubt any of them are looking for a short term contract.

That may be true, but they won't win any games.

Jeez, how many times do we have to go over this?

DiPietro's 15-year deal is actually looking better and better. It's a 4.5 million cap hit and if he has to retire, insurance pays off his contract (with 0 cap hit). I'd much rather have DiPietro signed for 12 more years at $4.5, than $7 million for the next four or five.

I might be wrong but I remember that insurance would only do up to 6 years for these contracts now. It started with Dipietro`s

One thing I love about Roloson are those games where he completely shuts the door on a powerhouse team. I'm betting it's going to be the Pens and Bruins this year.

Wrong. If he retires or is forced due to injury, we pay nothing. Insurance covers it all and it comes off the cap.
