Big difference because of one rule.

Players who sign after 35 count against the cap no matter what, players who sign before can be waived.

O.o

Hossa has a 12 year deal. Khabby will be 48 when it's done; he's 36 right now which means in 4 years (when the deal's up), he'll be 40.

I passed my first grade math class.

EDIT: I see what you did there.

There is a lot of risk with this signing because Khabibulin is 36 years old signing this contract. So, from my understanding, no matter what happens to Bulin his salary will still count against the cap.

Despite the risk, the Oilers picked up the best available goaltender at a pretty reasonable rate.

I'd still rather have Jeff Finger for that cost.

It's probably not overpayment but still, 4 years.

If he retired after a couple of years, I know Edmonton would be on the hook for the cap hit but would they still have to pay him?

lmao...no it doesnt Huet was great all year..speciall the playoffs in his limited role...stepped up vs Detroit. He has his bumps, but who doesnt. We also have Niemi and Crawford to back up

I don't like this at all.
JDD and DD get shafted.
We got ourselves an injury wh***, who's inconsistant and old.
We let go of the most reliable goalie we've had in the last decade, who we wouldn't give two years, and we gave this other windbag 3.75 / 4 years?

Seriously not a good thing for JDD's development, and we get an old goalie who during playoffs may have been clutch but his numbers sucked.

He was very inconsistant during the year so if he craps the bed what will rescue him, an unproven guy who's played 10 games in teh NHL?

Not good, just when i thought Tambellini was turning a new leaf, he goes and ruins it all with this .

Not good at all.

Playoffs: 8 wins.

For comparison:
2 wins - Kipper 3.52GAA .884 SV%

Luongo had a stellar percentage going before being lit up for 7 goals. Could have added to his 6 wins.

No. Also, he could be traded if absolutely necessary, as per Malakhov.

I would call it a very risky deal instead of a horrible deal. While the Hawks teams his first 3 years were bad, he sure didn't raise his game until the contract year rolled around. Add in that he's getting older and missed a significant amount of time over last 4 years in CHI, and since he's over 35 you're on the hook for the cap hit in years 2-4 regardless, it's a REAL risk.

That being said - as a Hawks fan, he was great for the Hawks last year and I hope he continues that for the Oilers.

overall good deal, a bit too lengthy but at least it is at a more reasonable price this time around. Way better contract

Chicago is called the windy city because of politics, not because it's really windy.

Edmonton and Chicago are on two entirely different levels when it comes to temperature. Khabi is a solid starting goalie, but he definitely didn't steal a single playoff game for us. Was solid throughout sure, but I'm comfortable going with Huet next year.

are u seriously delusional, this is great for jdd and dubnyk, bulin is a 60 game goalie MAX, it means more playing time for one of them and a chance for one of them to step up in a couple years and become the starter...
