Perfect team for Sammy to go to not to mention the most money he'll ever make. A little rich for my blood but he'll be incredibly effective for a Ken Hitchcock team. Great signing.

Did you even watch the Ducks Cup run? Not overrated at all. Wish the Ducks could afford him again but good luck in Columbus Sami!

Pahlsson made 1.4M last season. Was there really so much demand for him that his salary nearly doubled to 2.65M? Did Columbus panic with the Malhotra talks breaking down and overpay to get him?

The Blue Jackets have so damn many contracts, UFA and RFA coming up over the next couple of years that this could come back to bite them. Not because it will strap them for cap space, but because it could be too much leverage for players to demand more from them.

I think it was more like Malhotra wanted at least this much money (looking for 3+) because he spent sometime on the top line last year when Brassard went down. Malhotra wanted to get paid and Howson basically said forget this and went for the more proven shut-down guy. I think Columbus is trying to move towards being a team of role players rather than a thrown together patchwork quilt of hockey players.

Overpayment? Sure but not by much more than 400K on the open market.

Or maybe they realized that Pahlsson was just a better fit at 3rd line center than Manny...

Ouch what? I don't get it. Peca is no longer a Blue jacket.

This guy can actually shut down other teams top players on a consistent basis, Manny could not.

The jackets weren't interested in giving Manny the money he wanted. Like I said above, Manny is a 4th liner who played way above his head for about 12 games last year. Good face off guy and pk'er, but couldn't play vs. other teams top guys. Pahlsson can.

He is a prototypical third line center who helps give definition to the jackets bottom lines. A good move by Howson et al.

Overpayment? By how much? 400 000? Big deal.

The checking line of Moen, Pahlsson, and RNiedermayer won the Cup for Anaheim that year. I believe they outscored every other line in the Stanley Cup final. Pahlsson was a beast in his prime leading the Ducks in hits. Now, he simply floats. Too bad.

Its amazing how much money defense is worth these days. First Komisarek, and now Pahlsson. Pahlsson is lucky is he gets 20 points, and because he was once a Selke nominee he warrants 2.65M?

He's my favorite Duck of all-time, but even I don't think he's worth that much any more. However, if we see a return to 2007-era Sami, it's a bargain.

In any case, I wish him great success in Columbus. Enjoy him, BJ fans!

He doesn't float. His presence was a big factor in Chicago's win over Calgary, but he separated his shoulder and that ended his on ice effectiveness for the rest of the playoffs.

Too much money for him but great player nonetheless.

Did not know that.

Peca + Pahlsson would be quite the 3rd line.

Yeah, if this was the Peca of about 8 years ago.

Peca was horrid this year and will be lucky to get a job for this season.

I thought Pahlsson was a good pickup by the Hawks and that he was solid in the playoffs and was a good influence on some of the young guys like Buf but that's too much money for a 3rd liner.
