Living without the NHL

Loved this article - thought I would share it:

"One final thought. Like a power outage that results in a skip in the birthrate nine months later, the lack of Saturday night hockey can provide the opportunity for a new level of intimacy and romance.

"Don't say I didn't warn you."

I've been watching that new Denis Leary Show Rescue Me on Saturday nights!

Excellent show... plus with the 3 CSI's and 3 Law and Orders, there is something every night.

Yeah, that was a hilarious article. "Turns out I have three." Good stuff.

Or not. According to an article in the National Post, Oct 12, 2004 by Joe O'Connor (membership probably required), the birthrates went down the last lockout:

That appears to be the conclusion to be drawn from documents the National Post has obtained from the Canadian government.

The documents track live births by month in this country from 1992-2002. And what they reveal is startling: During the NHL lockout of a decade ago, which lasted from September '94 until January '95, Canadian couples' appetites for procreation plummeted as soon as the pucks stopped flying.
....
Indeed, there is no evidence of any lockout love children being born. On the contrary, maternity wards across Canada welcomed 1,248 fewer newborns in the summer of '95 than they had the previous year.
I think it was Homer who said it first: "No hockey and no beer make Homer something something."

It's all good...it just means I have more quality time to play Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, otherwise known as The Most Fun I've Had All Year.

Orks! Orks! Orks! Orks! Orks! Orks! Orks!

Life really does go on.
