The sentimental part of me likes this signing, the practical part of me thinks that I'd rather have Conklin or Clemmensen and they only signed for slightly more money.

I don't have a problem with the "news", but player-agent relations aren't reality television. they tell you what they want you to hear, period. marty's agent could have told him he could get 10 million a season, and if marty fell for it, it's his fault. fact of the matter is, NO ONE was going to give Marty 5 million and he ****ed up for even thinking it was possible. I understand the need for agents, considering hockey players aren't known as the smartest guys in the world, but it doesn't take a college degree to see the writing on the wall.

So well that he got dumped by Tampa Bay on FLA and was watching games from the press box?
I know you posted this a while ago, but at this point, with him unsigned, I don't know if this is a fair statement. He'll obviously sign for a lot less than he THOUGHT he'd get, but I think it's impractical to say that whatever he does end up signing for (if he signs) is what we could've signed him for.

That being said, I'm ambivalent about Boosh. I would've rather had Clemmenson.

I like this signing, he's extremely affordable, and overall for a backup I would say he can be quite solid.

It's not exactly the tandem from heaven, but i'm interesting to see how it pans out. I'm expecting the worst with it, so it will be hard pressed (im sure like many of you) to be disappointed.

Maybe Columbus I guess. Buffalo I think still has Lalime and I don't think would really spend the money on him. I guess that's a legit option though.

Anderson & Budaj - Colorado

I don't see LA as an option, they need to spend the money up front.

Quotes in case this hasn't been posted...

http://philadelphia.comcastsportsnet...896&feedID=695

Quote:
“I’m thrilled,” Boucher said. “I had a nice year in San Jose, but I’m happy to be back in Philly.”

Boucher, a 32-year-old native of Woonsocket, R.I., was a first-round pick by the Flyers in 1995 (22nd overall).

“He’s capable, he’s played a lot of NHL games, he has playoff experience,” said general manager Paul Holmgren. “And Brian is a guy who really wanted to come back here in the worst way.

“Even going back two years ago I think Brian is a lot better goalie now than when he left here. He’s more under control than he was [before here]. I thought he lost focus in the net a lot of times. He’s always been a real athletic goalie; very competitive.”

If he wanted to come back here "in the worst way" I guess signing him for the league minimum was an option, no?

Brian Boucher transcript...

Quote:

Boucher conference call
July 01, 2009 • 8:02 pm
By Chuck GormleyBRIAN BOUCHER

Q: How do you feel?

Brian Boucher: Thrilled. Thanks for that warm welcome. I’m thrilled. I had a nice year in San Jose, year and a bit, but I’m happy to be back in Philly.

Q: Paul just said you’re a better goaltender than when you left here. Do you agree with him?

BB: I totally agree with him. When I was in Philly before, I was a young guy still learning, and success came early. I wouldn’t trade the success for anything, but I wasn’t ready to deal with it. I wasn’t ready to be a #1 goalie at that time, and I think in a sense it kind of set me back the next couple years. It took me a while to learn the position, to learn the ups and downs of the position. Now, 10, 12 years later, I feel like I am a better goaltender. I’m more experienced, I’ve had different goalie coaches and I’ve seen a lot. Sometimes you don’t have the results to prove it, but deep down inside I feel like I’m a better goalie than I was then.

Q: Do you see yourself as a guy who can be a #1 again?

BB: You know, I don’t want to put expectations on myself like that. Before, I think that’s where I got caught up in wanting that so badly instead of just enoying the process. For me now, I enjoy hockey a tremendous amount. I enjoy being in the locker room with the guys every single day, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I get. That being said, I’m a competitive guy, and I want to play, and when I do play I want to play well. I don’t know what the future holds, but the only thing I know is I feel like I’m an asset when I’m on a hockey team. I helped the San Jose Sharks get the best record in the league last season and I felt like I was a big part of that. I feel like I can be a big part of the Philadelphia Flyers in whatever capacity it is. I can be a big asset to this hockey team.

.917 sv% 2.18 GAA and 2 so in 21 games for 900k?

I don't understand the issue. We got a very serviceable backup who looked like he could be a starter ( at times) last year for 900k a season. I'm very happy with this signing

I think this has more to do with the fact Emery is starting than it does with Boucher playing backup. I think people expected a 1b kind of goalie brought in incase Emery fails.

he filled in great for Nabby when he was injured.

I feel bad for Biron though.

Who will take him? LA, Det, STL, TBL are only possibilities really and none of them seem very likely.
