You know what's funny, I mean, no one here has ANY idea what the roster is really going to look like come October 5th, but at this exact moment, if the Ducks sign Saku, I think even without Pronger they might be better than they were last year, AND they set themselves up for the future a bit more w/ the Pronger trade. I think my head just exploded.
I always love July 1st. If teams do something, they're great. If not, they're terrible. Then most of the time, the vast majority of the time, teams that go crazy on July 1st don't win the Cup. Even a Detroit team that added Hossa to the exact same team, minus Drake, that won the Cup the year before, didn't end up winning the Cup.
The players that the Kings have drafted have to show that they can compete at a playoff level before adding a free agent is going to do much of anything toward the goal of winning the Cup.
We traded Boyle, Dancing Boy said on his blog we are trying to trade Richardson...Army and Calder walked...so this is how the team stands at forward as of today....
wow i just had a post-gretzky trade flashback looking at that list

You have to qualify for the playoffs before you can win the Cup and this team isnt going to do that without significant additions.

you know what i love, watching the kings be terrible, and watch other teams try to get better, and then watch the kings just be terrible again. its fun

So what you're saying is, they're gonna start next season just like they finished?
FWIW, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet just said that, in the end, it came down to NY and LA in the Gaborik sweepstakes. Both teams were presented with the 5 year/7.5 mil offer and Dean wouldn't bite.
Gomez bad sign obviously by the Rangers....they flipped that to a good big of assets from Montreal to give themselves room for Gaborik...
WTF....even the most mundane signing sets you up for assets later.
Havlat + whatever is just appeasement.
I doubt we even get him.
The Blackhawks in big cap hell sign Hossa.....when do we compete...even if we fuyck up a big signing...we can trade that signing for assets and picks........TICKED IS ME
This is ****in ridiculous
Completely agree. Its not like if we sign one of these top guys we are actually stuck with them forever (unless we give them a ntc). If DL is really waiting out for a guy like Kovalchuk (or the missing piece aka the right fit aka whoever the hell he keeps referring to and thinks is out there), then he should just use all the cap space available for this year to sign a free agent and then dump him for pics and prospects before next season. Its not in great character but at this point who cares. To not make some sort of big signing with all of this cap space is ridiculous. He held all the cards in this off season and is going to come up empty handed because he is too gun shy. Im pissed.
Well, Kovalev is a 36 year old RW'er...and Tanguay is a overpaid LW'er who is more of a passer....Not much left...Antropov is over-rated and a RW'er and wanted 4 + million a few weeks back. Bertuzzi? Ha.
