If you havent been to the Habs board to read about their reactions on the trade, do it. It is very amusing.

That was what one person posted! LOL

They've been disabled in an attempt to keep HF up all day today, when traffic will likely be high.

Sabres bring back Ted Nolan...

Nolan’s job: sell Amerk hockey, to community and to players
Quote:
There’s been a while since there has been any sort of buzz in the community with regard to the Rochester Americans.

The buzz is back.

On the first day of free agency, the Amerks haven’t signed a player yet, but they addressed their front office and image by hiring Ted Nolan to be the vice president of hockey operations.

The move was in the making for at least 14 months and the contract is for one year.

Nolan, 51, will oversee all aspects of hockey, from corresponding with the parent Florida Panthers to restoring pride in the franchise, to selling Amerk hockey.

And he’ll be selling the brand not just to the community — fans and coroporate sponsors — but also to players. He wants players pursuing a chance to wear the uniform, he doesn’t want to be begging players to come here.

“This is one of the most storied franchises in the American Hockey League,” Nolan said.

He was back in Rochester two years ago to watch his son, Brandon, play with the Manitoba Moose.

“It didn’t have the same feel,” Nolan said of the arena, where he played the 1984-85 season. “We have to bring back the tradition.”

There were more than two dozen fans in the arena atrium for the 1 p.m. news conference. The NHL Network was talking about Nolan’s hiring shortly after noon. Nolan’s hiring was immediately posted on TSN.ca, Canada’s hockey media machine. Satellite radio discussed the topic.

Nolan will have even more impact in Rochester. He’s a great ambassador. He could sell an Olympia ice resurfacing machine to the Zamboni family.

I just posted this in the FA thread...

FWIW, I'm friendly with Brian Startare, who is somewhat of a hockey guy on WIP (and is kinda my neighbor). On his facebook he took questions for his show that was tonight. I asked him what he thought happened with Marty. He said that Marty priced himself out of the market (I think we all knew that) and to look for him to sign with LA.

I know WIP is not normally hockey friendly, but hockey is Brian's #1 sport....
