Martin Havlat has a verbal agreement to play for the Minnesota Wild

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283486

Forward Martin Havlat has a verbal agreement to play for the Minnesota Wild.

The paperwork is still being completed so the deal isn't official, but there is a tentative agreement in place.

In 81 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season, Havlat registered 29 goals and 48 assists for 77 points.

The 28-year old was selected 26th overall by the Senators in the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

The Czech Republic native has 169 goals and 227 assists for 396 points in 470 career regular season games with the Senators and the Blackhawks.

Maybe now we know why Fletcher never even made a serious pitch at Gaborik. Smart move. Not as much talent as Gaborik, but close enough, and not as many injuries or as much of a headcase, either. Overall, we're coming out ahead. Now if we can get Mikko's big brother here to dish him the puck, we're back to a 2 and a half line team.

Wow what a great price for a Havlat. I am pumped hopefully he can stay healthy. Plus if we sign Saku Koivu it will be even better!

I keep reading here and elsewhere that Havlat is less injured than Gaborik, which isn't true. Since 00-01, Gaborik played in 32 more games and had 41 more points. Not that either of them is going to set any records for reliability, but don't get your hopes up too much. Before this last season it wasn't even close, Havlat played far fewer games. The fact that it was contract year may have had an impact on his durability, we'll see how it goes now that he's locked in another 6 years.

Havlat's also now playing on a higher line with a less offensively talented team around him. I hope I'm wrong, btw, but I have no faith in Havlat right now. I suspect his ppg days are done. edit: That said, I don't think Gaborik is worth 50% more than Havlat, so the price is right I suppose.

Gaborik vs Havlat career:

Hey guys. Hawks fan here. I think you guys got an upgrade to Gaborik with Havlat, personally. Gaborik has a bit more offensive sizzle, but Havlat has a ton himself and is really good defensively to boot. As far as Havlat's injuries, his shoulder was the big problem over the last few years, and the surgery he got last off season seems to have finally fixed that (they added some extra bone to his shoulder so it will stop popping out).

We got Hossa, but I'm going to miss having Havlat around. He is a real treat to watch too, and is a VERY clutch player. I think you guys will enjoy having him on your team.

Thanks for a Hawks perspective. I am definitely happy with Havlat over Gaborik, especially for less money. Here is hoping that Havlat's shoulder injuries are behind him for good, and unlike Gaborik with his groin, Havlat showed last year that his shoulder can hold up for a whole year.

Nice to see the Wild land Havlat, should be a nice piece to add to their lineup.

Here's to Havlat having a injury free season for you guys... He was great for us last year and during the playoffs scored some very timely goals. I'm sure he will flourish under your new "attack" style.

Hey guys, enjoy Havlat. He definitely has a penchant for scoring timely goals. Against Calgary and Vancouver, he came up big at the right time. Plus he always has at least 3/4 highlight reel goals in him during the season. It sucks he's gone (him being our MVP) but I love our additions to the Hawk squad. Should be interesting games this year, especially since Marty's got a bit of a chip on his shoulder right now.

I really wish the Wild were in the same division as Chicago and Detroit and St Louis. It would be nice to build a rivalry that we can sink our teeth into. Playing in a division with Canadian teams that are somewhat far away it's just hard to have that real bitter rivalry that makes sports great. Chicago would be a perfect team to have a rivalry with and it would make the Havlat signing even bigger then it already is.

Sens fan here just stopping by to say you now have one of my all time favourite ex-Senators.

I understand that the Wild fans are going to be rewarded with a more entertaining style of hockey this year and there is no player who is more fun to watch than
Martin Havlat.

I wonder if he will go back to 9-he was MACH9 in Ottawa, if you don't have a player who wears that number.

Anyway good luck and I hope to see some of your games this year. The only thing I'm not happy about is that I had always hoped to see Havlat back in Ottawa colours.

Face it right now guys, if it wasn't for Chicago signing Hossa....they wouldn't of signed Havlat again. We should be grateful they made the pitch to Hossa. Not to mention we probably made a bigger offer for Marty than the Hawks did because sources were flying he was going to sign cheap to stay in chitown

I'm not sure I understood the first part of what you said, but if you're saying that we wouldn't have signed Havlat after having signed Hossa, of course you are right. The rumors of a hometown discount in CHI for Havlat were just that, rumors, but straight from the horse's mouth (Havlat's agent), he wanted a long-term deal and the Hawks couldn't risk giving that to him. He hadn't played a full season with the Hawks until this year.

However, I just want to say congratulations because you're getting a great player. A lot of people think that his shoulder has been repaired for good and time will tell, but if he can stay healthy he is one of the true elite forwards in the NHL. Total gamebreaker, always the most exciting guy to watch on the ice. Will carry the team when nobody else can find the net. The only reason he's flown under the radar is because of the injuries. As others have already said, he was also GREAT defensively last year, and I wish you guys the best of luck with him!

Was sad to see Marty go, jaw dropping to watch as a bearded magician on skates and from the times I met him a nice guy. Some reports of his having issues inside the locker room with players/coaches and then the injuries...

... either way, sit back and enjoy the show.

One thing is for sure, you didn't decrease your highlight reel goals count for the upcoming season...possibly will have even more since Havlat will play in more games!

Congrats. I wanted him for the oilers
