BG handed Gaborik to the Rags

Without the Gomez deal, the Rangers wouldn't have had the cash to sign Gaborik... who, by the way, cost LESS than Gomez... there was no mention of it, so thought I'd say it.

Rangers got a REAL star... we got their pink elephant contract.

Unless of course Gaborik is hurt 50% of the time. But that's won't happen will it?

Who's going to center Mr. Gaborik?

And he's going to play with the offensive dynamo Drury.

...and then get hurt after 30 games...

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with you here.

It was obvious from the start that moving Gomez was all about cap space for the Rangers. BG offered Sather the opportunity to clear a huge contract and Sather always intended on spending that money again.

Still, you have to give Gainey credit for making a move for once.

Let Gomez play and let the Rangers worry about their own consistency issues, which I'm sure will continue with them next season and well beyond.

Who would Gabby play with here? Plekanec? We had no center to entice Gabby to come here. Koivu, although he has worn the CH with pride and represented the franchise very well, could not cut it through the last five years in enticing a UFA. Gomez did as it made both Gionta and Cammy want to come here, all three are better and/or younger than Koivu/Tanguay/Kovalev.

Without Gomez the Habs don't sign Cammalleri and Gionta, and definitely don't get Gaborik anyway.

But after reading cammalleris comments about gomez having an effect on his decision i think its no coincidence that we actually signed big name players this year as oppose to every other year where we get nothing. I guess gainey figured noone was that thrilled to play with koivu/kovalev and got someone more intriguing

I wonder if you'll bring this up if Gaborik goes on to have yet another injury plagued season.

He played 207Games out of 328 in the past 4 years.

I also couldn't care less if Gaborik goes on to score 100pts with NYR and Gomez gets 70 if we end up being one of the top teams in East.

Can we freaking wait to see how our team will perform before reacting like school girls going to see Britney Spears.

Nobody knows how our team will turn up. Sure, we didn't get the big top line center and we didn't get significantly better, but we simply can't know for now if the moves done were the right or wrong ones.

that was the whole problem in Montreal it got STALE....no one but fans care to play with Saku or Kovy ...there names had no UFA drawing power....now we got some !

Oh please. If not Gainey then someone would have taken Gomez and free up that space. It's not like Gomez had a NTC or anything. Rangers get a injury ridden superstar, and we got a 1st line center THAT ATTRACTED TWO scoring wingers.

So while they get a superstar, we got a legitimate first line.

You have to make the moves to help your own team first and foremost.

It's nice when your rivals are in trouble, but you can't control what they'll do.

And we need to sign Plekanec, Latendresse, D'agostini and Stewart.

^^ I don't see that happening from what Gainey said today about all our UFA's & RFA's...but I guess we'll just have to wait it out and see what he does next lol

ive remember reading SCOTT GOMEZ ranks in the top 38 to around top 50 players in the NHL i think in the hockeynews over the years .....where does Saku or Kovy rank?

i like Gaborik but not sure im ready to hand him 5 at 7.5 with the injury bug that has followed him but hey its not our risk to take ......

Gainey went for durable players who have be fairly healthy over there career....the guys we had were dropping like flies last season there was a problem ...

They've all received qualifying offers.

^^ Ya MTL has the oppurtunity to match what other teams offer them ... and realistically I doubt all 4 of them will be back...so we'll probably just get draft picks in return

^^ If them getting Gaborik means us getting a legit 70-80pts player and a true first line. I wouldn't be more happy.

I'm pretty sure Lats will be back and I don't see him asking for much. Same goes for D'Ago and Stewart.

We definitely can't start the year with Gomez/Lapierre, so either we get another center or Plekanec comes back.

I did hope for a Koivu return, but doesn't look like it'll happen. So, my fingers are still crossed for Beauchemin.
