Lang

We obviously need some size down the middle, but if I'm not mistaken didn't Gainey go out and get a big right shooting centre last year? His name is Robert Lang and up until his injury he was arguably our best player. I think we should re-sign him. One thing I would like to know is the status of his achilles injury and if he'll be ready to play next season at 100%. IMO Lang is exactly what we need at centre. Anyone know what's going on with him?

I'd agree to resign him if we can get him at a good deal, but then what to do with pleks ?

Pleks, I'm not so sure about, but I can tell you the Habs need a big centre and they have it in Lang if they want it. Before his injury he was on pace for close to 30 goals and really ignited A. Kostitsyn. After the injury A. Kost was never heard from again. I think Gainey will give Plekanec another season to prove his worth and after that make a decision on whether or not he stays. Perhaps Pleks is involved in trade talks as we speak. Gionta, Lang, Lapierre, Metropolit is good at centre. Keeping Pleks would mean moving Metropolit out menaing you have Gionta, Lang, Pleks, Lapierre (I like this).

If we can get him for less than $2m then by all means go for it, if not its unfortunate for him.

Actually, we're building up a faster team.

Everyone is fast.

Cammy, Gomez, Gionta, Kostyt Bros, Plek, Laps, Patches, Dags. Our top 9 are fast.

No soo bad.

Unfortunately, Lats, BGL and Gill take our speed down about half way.

Trade Pleks for a defencemen or a draft pick and sign Lang to a 1 year deal worth 2.5 Mil.
Next year Maxwell might be able to step up and be the 2nd line center.

Wasn't Lats one of the fastest skaters in our camp a few years back?

That's because Metro is a checking line center. You expect ancient Lang to play on the 4th line? What's the point?

If he's interested and healthy, absolutely... he can become the 3rd line guy/ backup 2nd line player... bump Lappiere to the wing or the 4th line.

I heard that Lang wants a 2-3 year deal and doesn't want to take a paycut. Granted this was before the UFA period kicked off so who knows if that changed. I'd consider bringing him back but I also think Pleks can rebound and I would think he will be cheaper.

I was thinking that Lang would be a good fit for us cause he will probably not get a lot of interest due to his injury/age etc. But if he wants more than 2 million he will be waiting a long time.

Well technically we could have 3 lines with scoring potential, we have the parts.

Cams - Gomez - Gionta
Kost - Pleks - Kost
Latendresse - Lang - D'Ago
Patches - Lapierre - Chipchura/Stewart

So we have the room, its just the cap space/injury we need to be worried about. Though I think there's little to no chance of Lang coming back.

I have the feeling D'Agostini will graduate on the first two lines this year so there's no place for Lang(as much as I like him).

In a way, if we got a god deal on lang, I'd actually make him captain if we dont make markov captain. He has a great personality, is a vet, plays hard and doesnt complain. Thoguhts?

Now that Kovalev isn't coming back, and since Gainey wants chemistry, Bring back Lang with the Kostitsyn brothers on the second line!
