Now I think we might be trading one of our other D's.

Kind of wanted Beauchimen more since he has some more offensive upside, but Scuderi is a warrior, and I likes me some warriors on the ice.
True Beauchimen is more offensive but do the kings need an offensive d? we have Doughty and JMFJ also Hickey coming up too

I think this signifies that a big trade is coming or that team thinks Teubert is 3 or 4 years away. If Biron actually does sign, I would be looking for a Teubert, Bernier + ? for scoring left wing blockbuster. Simone Gagner if I had to guess. Flyers need to shed some salary and cannot take much salary back.

You guys will immediately fall in love with Scuds. He is the hardest working player on the ice and he does what is necessary for his team.

He will sacrifice his body whenever possible and will be a stable on your D for years to come. There is no other player I would rather have killing a penalty or on the ice in a close game situation. Great signing for your team and I hope for the best for him and your team in the future.

You're just looking for reasons to be upset. Good signing. In this day and age, 30 isn't that old and neither is 34. It isn't like DL signed Chelios or something.

So long term we are looking at:

Scuderi/Greene/Doughty (he'll be re-signed long term and for $$).

Everyone else:

Quincey (RFA '10), Johnson (RFA '09), O'Donnell (Retire in '10)

Say you sign the RFA's. You then have one spot open next season for one of:

Hickey/Voinov/Teubert/Martinez/Campbell

Barring any trades, I'd imagine Hickey slides in for 2010-11 and Voinov completes a 3rd season in Manchester. This isn't terrible as he is still very young. Teubert plays in Manchester as well that season.

At this time they should have a good idea of what the current crop of D prospects can do. At that point you move someone who is making a big salary or is due for a big raise and plug in the prospect.

Moneypuck, no?

It could all go down this way unless he moves defense now for help up front. If that doesn't happen this Summer though, I think it is going to happen at some point. It's the one thing that Lombardi has said that I truly believe: he is collecting chips so he can make a big deal.

It's more obvious then ever that big-name guys aren't going to sign here until LA is a winner. It's going to be a trade and it will probably be next Summer when/if the CAP goes down.

Also, Preissing needs to be dumped. I like Scuderi more than Beauchemin only because I think Beauch is going to get more money and is coming off a serious injury. I still think that Scuderi is over-rated but he is still a big upgrade to this teams defense corp when you look at Harrold,Gauthier,Drewiske and O'Donnell.

Excellent! Another Cup winner on D and sets us solid in that position for years to come.

Next step - forwards.

Pretty much, Scuderi is in the prime of his career right now at 30.

Yep he is one mean s.o.b. and will make things tough for opponents. Pens must really be up against the cap to have let him go because his contract is quite reasonable. I am sure Flyer fans are pretty happy with this move as pens definitely get a weaker defensively.

The reason I appreciated Denis Gauthier most was his shot blocking.

Now that is replaced with a significant upgrade for the D-corps so I think we can all with certainty say farewell to Gauthier.

I was hoping no more than 3m per, but whatever. Solid signing! Glad to have him in the fold.

Now hopefully we'll hear some news about Johnson signing a new deal soon.

Not true. He is a good signing, but the biggest need is a scoring winger for Kopitar.

He will probably play with Doughty so that Doughty can take more offensive chances. Scuderi > O'Donnell

Scuderi-Doughty
Johnson-Greene
Quincey-O'Donnell
Harold

If Lombardi can acquire a top 6 winger without losing any roster players, then the Kings will have a shot at the playoffs.

Imagine if we picked up Scuderi and Gaborik. We would be set for the next few years.

Sounds like a great signing. Can one of the Pittsburgh fans explain why Pitt is willing to let him go? Doesn't seem like his salary demands were that unreasonable.

Do you really think losing Scuderi is going to cost the Penguins a playoff spot next season? Even in the pre-cap days, it was hard to repeat as champions. Detroit actually added Hossa to a Stanley Cup winning team and lost.

Yeah we still need a wing but it doesn't negate that this was a good signing and filled a need.

$$$$$

Wouldn't fit under cap.
