If there was no cap, the Pens would have kept him and we wouldn't have him.
That is all.
That is not true, not every UFA was retained by their team before the cap. Maybe the Penguins felt that a 30 year old 5-6 defenseman wasn't worth more than $2.5 million. Not every team overspent before the cap.
Scuderi is now the highest paid defenseman on the Kings. Is he really the best defenseman on the team? Now what do you pay Johnson?
For another 1.6 million we could've had Martin Havlat at 2 years younger and at a position where we only have Frolov and Ivanans.
HOW COME NO ONE IS PISSED ABOUT THAT? WTF!
Plenty of people are pissed, believe me. Why fight it any more tho?
Scuderi is a good player and I'm happy to have him. Hopefully this leads to a trade for some scoring help or at least helps us to win every game by a score of 1-0.
You have to ask Captain Ron. He's the expert on such matters.
You're not seriously going to tout Rob Scuderi as an example of teams having to sacrifice star players due to the salary cap are you?
If anything, this signing supports Ron's argument. Cash strapped teams won't let go of star players, they'll cut loose the spare parts and 5-6 d-men like Scuderi (and I like Scuderi). Posted via Mobile Device
The ONLY problem I have with this signing is the glut of Left Shot defensemen it gives the Kings (We'll see if Voinov impresses enough to stay with the big club, he's a Right Shot), but that aside, it's money well spent. You talk about covering "Home Plate", This guy does it!!!
Greene, O'D and Scuderi. Nice defense-minded group.
Maybe one of them could play LW.
Now the Kings have almost all right shooting forwards and left shooting defensemen.
We are talking major players, not 30 year old depth guys who get more money than they are worth because they are UFA.
The lost Malone and Hossa last year and won the Cup. You can still lose guys and win when you've got enough talent. Identify your core, keep them together at all costs and make shrewd signings/picks to round out the rest of the team.
Yeah when you have Crosby, Malkin, and Fleury add 17 more guys and your fine. Believe me when we have Pens fans coming hear saying your going to love this guy and good luck to Scurderi means he's not going to be missed.

Well everything I have read the last two days was that Scuderi wanted to stay in Pitts and Pitts wanted Scuderi to stay. However (and most all the Pens fans in the trade board corroborate this), Shero could literally only offer him 2 mill per. I think it is perfectly reasonable to assume that if Shero had an extra mill (he still has a winger to sign), then he would have given it to Scuderi.
We can wait to hear from Scuderi and Shero later for the final word, but I expect that there is no bad blood, not that Pitts didn't think Scuderi was worth what he wanted, but that they simply couldn't give it to him.
As for Johnson, he still gets what he deserves, which is a LOT less than 3.4 mill per. If Johnson says "BUT I HAVE A HARDER SLAPSHOT AND MORE POTENTIAL!", Dean just says "Too bad mister I want 5 games at the end of the season, see this thing here? This nice shiny mattress that feels like it might collapse when you sit on it? That's your bed. It's all made up for you."
quite frankly, I don't know a thing about Scuderi, but if he is the type of player everyone is describing, then it seems like a good pickup. We do seem to be pretty overloaded on defense now.

Point is though Chicago will have to move someone. It isn't going to be one of their big three, but it's still going to be a very good player.

Oh he will be missed you can be sure of that. Us Pens fans are just generally happy at the moment so that buys some good will. We are also happy to see a guy like Scuderi who worked his way up through the ranks go out and get himself this kind of deal. He is a great team guy, what kind of fans would we be if we couldnt be happy for a guy who gave us a lot getting his family squared away for the future?
