Finnish coach in NHL

In the paper Sunday Lou Lamoriello mentioned that the next head coach of the New Jersey Devils would be a "surprise".

That got me to thinking that since the player pool is so heavily European nowadays it might be the time for a coach from Europe to give it a try as well.

Are there any coaches in Finland who would be interested in NHL jobs and any that would succeed?

If you want to finish second, a Finnish coach surely knows how to make it happen

Top Finnish coaches

Was wondering more about the guys like Jortikka, the Jalonens, Aravirta, Westerlund and the like or possibly people like Matikainen who played in North America as well as enjoying success in the coaching ranks. Alatalo and Dufva are other younger guys who would seem capable of coaching in North America if that was their desire.

From what I've heard, Jortikka and Aravirta have fairly extensive knowledge of the game and all are fairly highly respected among the international coaching ranks.

I'm sure there are others I'm missing.

Summanen would probably be my choice since he has some NHL experience as player and IMO maybe the best coach from Finland currently. He has also already coached abroad so it might be possible that someday he'll coach in NHL since he isn't too old. But don't really see that happening yet.

I would put my bets to Petri Matikainen or Kari Heikkilä. Matikainen needs some experience outside Finland and both need to adapt the NHL via assistant coaching.

Or other good choices might be some old players from Selänne-Numminen-Koivu axis who don't need any lessons from North American style of play. But this takes some seasons, the need to end their playing career first.

Best coach and also likes a NA style of play as a coach.

Summanen
.
.
.
The rest...

Only if Summanen would't be such a madman I think he would/could land NHL head coach position and actually succeed in it.

Summanen is good coach because he is a madman.
Shouldn´t be blocked from NHL because of that he is a madman, other way round.

Wouldn't really surprise me to see some swede being announced the new head coach. Petri Matikainen is the coach who I hope, will be in the NHL one day.

Tactical game would be huge but I think the swedes don't have the balls/toughness in the gamebook to succeed in the NHL.

Probably true but I'm not sure how the the NHLers would react when "Raato" began to shake his thang in the dressing room

Okay, maybe he is not good fit to NHL. But there is only one Janne Niinimaa

Matikainens target: Nhl or Ahl
"Some day i'would like to coach across the pond. Eventhough the Ahl. I would like to learn the job there."
