Pittsburgh, Philly, Boston and Washington are probably top 4 teams in East. Devils are best of the rest...

Their core is still there. Outside of Zubrus, who else is not an original Devil draftee? They're passing on the winning habit from generation to generation, no matter who the coach is, or which HHoFer leaves the team. From Stevens/Nieds to Elias/Parise... Not even an injury to arguably the best goaltender of all time hasn't stopped them from winning the division. As long as Lou is still there, they'll be good. Mediocre, but good enough for playoffs.

i agree. im not sick of betting against them. parise is all they have. poor kid. the team is a bunch of the same old bums. i just dont think they will be nearly as strong and they lost the 2 way play of madden, the ugliness of holik, and whatever from gionta. i just think its their time to suck

Even with the cap, they must be careful because they can't bury contracts like Voros and Rissmiller, and especially not Redden.

They buried Richard matvichuck

And Maladog, IIRC.

The Devils will be fine..the have two elite wingers, a steady, if not spectacular, defense, and a slowly declining but still effective goaltender. They have more than enough pieces to make the playoffs.

Let's be honest: the Atlantic is going to be absolutely brutal this year.

And Grant Marshall. And Dan McGillis. And Alexander Mogilny.

The Devils have buried more contracts than the Rangers.

Darius Kasparaitis
Patrick Rissmiller

Oh I see what's going on here. It's called reverse psychology!

.

While I would love to see them languish at the bottom of the standings for the next 10 years, I have to admit that Lou is the smartest GM in the league and would never allow that to happen.

I would expect a retooling of sorts over the next 2 years and see them getting right back into the title picture.

He's running the Devils much like the Steelers are run. They draft according to a certain type of player/charachter They sign players that they NEED not the players that every one else (fans included) wants. They have remained one of the top teams in the league following this plan and will continue to do so.

They let players star walk (much like the Steelers) and back fill those roles very aptly.

The one position I think they will have trouble filling is in Nets, but again, Lou is a great GM and I would expect him to do what he does and address the situation in Lou type fashion.

Again I hope they languish in the bottom for years and years.....but I know better, and so should you all.
