You're clearly on Twitter too.

I honestly have no idea what this means for the team haha.

Good to hear. We just need a damn and a backup goalie and we are set.

Wow 3 year deal. I guess he takes over for Demitra in a year?

Nice signing. Hopefully not a ton of money, but I don't mind this route at all. He would fit fine playing with Kesler and Demitra if that's how it works out. Could play with Sedins and put Demitra with Burr/Kesler.

Samuelsson! I noticed he scored a lot of clutch goals for the Red Wings.

Pretty underwhelming second liner, but at least he'll be cheap. 3 year deal seems strange with the young guys in that position.

I concur. I'm not getting too excited, but I imagine that it didn't cost much. I really don't think a guy that scored 40pts at 32 is solving any problems for this team though.

Previous report said he was looking for $2m per season over a longer term. It'll be interesting to see what this contract is. Capwise, the Canucks are being built very soundly. Getting wingers like Burrows and Samuelsson to sign affordable contracts will be critical to retaining a strong core.

Samuelsson will be a good addition to the team. He'll be able to platoon with the group in both the top and bottom six.

Does anyone want to comment on his PK prowess?

Gives AV the option of "re-uniting" the Burrows-Kelser combo fulltime instead of just PK duty.

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed right winger Mikael Samuelsson to a three-year deal. In keeping with club policy terms were not disclosed.

Samuelsson, 32, recorded 40 points (19-21-40) in 81 games last season and 10 points (5-5-10) in 23 playoff games with Detroit through to the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals. In 466 career NHL games Samuelsson has 208 points (86-122-208) and 244 penalty minutes. The Mariefred, Sweden native was a member of the 2007.08 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings team and has produced a career total of 35 points (13-22-35) in 69 postseason games.

Samuelsson was a member of Team Sweden, winning gold at the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy in 2006, where he recorded four points (1-3-4) in eight games.

The 61, 205-lbs winger was drafted by San Jose 145th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Finally, someone with a stanley cup ring. Now for Beauchemin.....

I wouldn't have minded Fedotenko either - two rings with different teams and a proven performer (unlike Hossa).

Could this be a precursor to a deal where we trade Raymond/Grabner?

A 3 year deal?

Interesting. He's not exactly a stop gap if that's the term.

I always noticed him on the PP. Also a shoot-first player, if I'm not mistaken.

Gillis is starting to look more like Nonis with each and every day.

On one hand I love that we signed a shooter, every player on this team could stand to shoot the puck more. He can also play the point on the PP which is a plus.

On the other hand, this has to be the precursor to a move of some sort, we simply have too many young players ready to take the next step. Don't see how Grabner makes the team in the near future - even next year with Demitra gone.

Terms are critical. Anything more than $2m / year for a 3 year deal is overpayment.

Also, I hope we dump Demitra if we can convince Sundin to re-sign. I'd prefer that over losing one of our young wingers.

Definately a shooter. Had 79sog in the Playoffs this year, and had right around 250 sog the past 2 seasons.

I guess Sundin is defiantly gone then. Does he retire or go somewhere new this season?
