Listening to the pondcast right now. He has cists (spelling?) on his left hip. It isn't like Gaboriks yet but it'll take some extensive rehab. At least 6 months, but could be 3-5 months.
At least 6 months? Well, so much for an off-season trade of Harding. That takes us into mid-October; I don't see any new GM trading away our backup goalie now.
Good that Backs is getting this done in the off-season. Maybe the whole team should get this surgery this summer as a preventative measure?
Honestly I think its contagious or something it sounded like he was playing with it for awhile too

Exactly, that's a ton of months, and therefore therefore training, he is going to be missing. Do you really want him to shake off the rust during the regular season when games actually count?? Especially with how competitive the division is going to be yet again next year?
Story I read today says it's at least 3-5 but could be 6 if rehab doesn't go well which is not expected to be an issue.
Best case scenario is 3-5, but this type of surgery can require up to 6 months. He is an athlete and still pretty young so they are being optimistic about it
Would the 12 week recovery time theoretically put Harding back on the market or would the team hold onto him for insurance purposes ?
The Blues are in a position to offer excellent compensation and will be proactively shopping for a 2nd goalie this summer. Do the Blues have anything the Wild need ?

The Wild need some serious prospects as our cupboards are currently quite bare.

Primary asset- 1st, 17th overall in '09
Secondary assets- RW Palushaj ( 44th overall in '07 )
C/LW Sonne ( 85th overall in '07 )
LD Junland ( 64th overall in '06 )
2nd, 47th overall in '09
Would the Wild be interested in anything here ?
Is the 1st + one of the secondary assets enough/too much?
This is really not my area of expertise, so help on the realistic value of Josh Harding would be appreciated. I'm not here to get the best deal possible, just to find out what Wild fans think would be a realistic return from the Blues.

I think a first is overpayment considering he is an RFA. Hell a 1st and a 2nd swuld be enough to get him at the draft if he was signed for another year I think.

Thanks for the feedback I am The Mush.
I figured it was an overpayment, just didn't want to lowball the Wild fans on their own board. I appreciate the honest answer, it gives me an idea of what it's going to take to upgrade in goal.
Thanks Wild Thing, I really enjoy going to other boards without being looked at as a troll. I'm originally a Minnesota boy myself and my favorite scout Mike Antonovich scouts and lives in the area. In fact, I think he was named mayor of a town in the last year. No place like Minnesota in the summer, hope I get up there this year.
This is the only Backstrom thread running and I didn't want to start a thread to ask this question but what is it about Backstrom's new contract that prevents us from trading him (or at least that what I think I've heard but I could be wrong). I just don't see the point in a 30 year goalie being our most expensive player at a time when we need to re-tool our organization for more assets and a time when we have a 24 year old goalie ready to take over full time. I would rather turn the reins over to Harding and trade Backstrom, acquiring assets and clearing $6 mil off the cap.
