It makes me happy to see people in discussions over who is going to center the 4th line and who the extra D is going to be. It means that there's not many whole to fill and quite a few young players able to fill them. Not to say LA is going to be great, but a playoff series isn't far fetched.

Wow, we won't give up any PP goals if we can ice 5 players on the PK, unless you are suggesting that we pull the goalie?

Kings #1 wish should be someone taking Zeiler on waivers.

The best defense is always a good offense!

I asked on the Oilers board, and Smyth never really played with Stoll, Horcoff centered Smyth, as well as Mike Comrie and Doug Weight. So don't assume they'll have chemistry, even though in my line up I have them playing together also. I did so in an attempt to keep the chemistry between Frolov & Kopitar in tact, and maybe see if Brown can regain his offensive #'s from his '08 year where he was paired at the hip with Kopitar.

IMO Frolov / Kopitar / Brown makes a well rounded young first line that should be able to do it all, and will only improve year after year IF they can be left together and find their chemistry again.

A second line of Smyth / Stoll / Williams is a strong experienced 2nd line that can give the 1st line a night off and provided secondary scoring when needed, and allows the Kids to be plugged into that line as they move up the system.

? / Handzus / Simmonds on the 3rd line is almost a given, we'll have to see if Lombardi adds another 'piece' or does Purcell/Moulson/Moller/whoever fill it.

The fourth line ... damn, I wonder if Lombardi is reconsidering giving Armstrong another year afterall ?

It really isn't that difficult. Just send him to Manchester were he can run around and crash into the boards and fall down. It's like he is the practice squad guy in football, who should never be in a game but somehow is rewarded for trying hard. Bummer is we (The Kings) will have to pay his full boat salary even if he is in Manchester, due to his one way contract, although it doesn't count against the CAP when he is in the minors. Dean must have been drunk when he signed him to that four year deal. We will never be a playoff team if he is on the roster. Shows we don't have enough depth. Period.

Moulson is a UFA and the Kings are trying to deal Richardson...

So the 4th line with be guys like Ivanans, Westgarth, Clune, Lewis, Zeiler, and Harrold.

This is a Terry Murray team, let's not forget. Smyth is his kind of player, Smyth will definitely be on the top line with Kopitar and Williams.

Darn, didn't know that.

I would still put Smyth on a line with Stoll and Brown. Brown and Stoll worked out really well last season and Smyth plays a similar style of game to Calder. Also it would be good to have Smyth showing Brown a more north-south type of game.

Soooo,

Frolov (2.9) - Kopi (6.8) - Williams (3.5)
Smyth (6.25) - Stoll (3.6) - Brown (3.175)
Moller (.663) - Handzus (4) - Simmonds (.585)
Ivanans (.600) - Lewis (.765) - Richardson (.588)

Doughty (.875) - Scuderi (3.4)
Greene (2.95) - OD (1.25)
Johnson (3,7) - Hickey (1.346)

Quick (.77)
Ersberg (.75)

Westgarth (0,6)
Harrold (.583)

Buyouts - 1.7
Cap hit - 47.050 without bonus - 49.952 with all bonus (without JJ and Westgarth) - 54,252 with all bonus and JJ&Westgarth (JJ~3,7;Westgarth~0,6)

cap space: ~2,8 + ~3,3 bonus cushion

still some space for new centar, Kessel?if thea put Rask(3,2 cap hit with bonus) in NHL there is no way they can keep Kessel

He probably should. If you look at it, both Kopitar and Frolov love to pass. Put Kopitar with Smyth and Williams who shoot a lot and Frolov with Stoll and Brown and I think you have two balanced lines. Even if Smyth plays with Stoll and Brown, you can't really go wrong with either combination.

Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds

PP1
Smyth-Kopitar-Frolov
Stoll-Doughty

PP2
Williams-Handzus-Brown
Johnson-Schuderi/Greene

PK1
Simmonds-Handzus

Go to Hockeybuzz or Matthew Barry's blog...he mentioned it...

The Kings added a bit of age in Scuderi and Smyth, I hope they revamp the 4th line with youth. Lewis, Clice can battle for the center spot and Westgarth can battle Ivanans for the enforcer role and Zeiler, Clune and Harrold can battle for the other spot.

This is pretty close to what I had in mind. I'd put Hickey with OD on the bottom pair moving JJ up with Greene. I still think it would be ideal to get a bottom pair, PP guy and let Hickey develop in Manchester.
