Zanon will be missed

I think he should have been re-signed. I wish him the best of luck. We are so deep on defense so will be ok, but nobody on the team last year blocked shots the way this man did and I hope we can be strong without him, I feel he helped us a ton last year and was un recognized.

Good Luck in the future Greg!

I liked Zanon for his role...but with that said, he was likely the most overrated player on the team last year. He hurt us as much as he helped us, at times. No one was better at screening our goalies, and positionally\one-on-one he just didn't have it.

good shot blocker\fearless PK guy, though.

I don't think it was the money that was the problem. I think the years is probably where discussions broke down. In 3 years we will have guys like Ellis, Blum, Josi etc, ready to play possibly.

I'm curious, what do some of you project your top 6 D to be heading into next season now that Zanon is gone?

#1 - Ryan Suter
#2 - Shea Weber
#3 - Dan Hamhuis
#4 - Kevin Klein
#5 - Alexander Sulzer
#6 - Jonathon Blum/Cody Franson/Teemu Lääkso (I'm leaning towards Blum, personally)

That's if we don't sign another defenseman, which we are reportedly trying to do. I see it as

Weber Suter
Hamhuis McKee\Alberts\FA
Klein Sulzer\Blum

Poile said on the radio yesterday that the coaching staff wanted him to focus on forwards, and that they were confident in their current defensive unit.

Besides, putting Hamhuis with McKee or Alberts isn't all that different than putting him with De Vries or Zanon. Put Klein alongside him. If we sign a defenseman, I think it's a third pairing or reserve player, like Klee or Chelios.

I think that McKee provides a pretty seamless transition from Zanon, though I think when healthy he's a much better defenseman.

I hadn't heard that we were focusing on another forward...realistically, i think we need one of each in the 1-1.5 million range.

McKee and Pyatt, FTW.

I think that Rousel may challenge for a spot this season. I doubt he gets it, but I expect to see him very soon. Apparently he plays with a mean edge and can play the point very well. He was great vision and has great size already

I think Roussel will almost certainly be in Milwaukee, but that's just what most rookies do. He should be better then Zanon in a few years, and I'm glad we picked him. What a great draft year.

You're both wrong, he'll be back in Shawiningan again.

That is just so much fun to say. Say Shawinigan again again.

Roussel was the youngest player in the draft. He needs to work on skating and positioning. He has and edge and is good with the puck. He has great size, especially for his age. Lets let him develop....He may turn out to be the best player we drafted this year.....I LOVE his selection. His playoff stats were amazing!

i respectfully disagree that a 17 year old defenseman is going to plunge right into the NHL. It will be no less than 3 seasons until we see him in Milwaukee, let alone Nashville.
