HFBoards TOP 60 ranking: Defencemen #22

Now that the season and playoffs are over, I thought we'd do an "HFboards ranking" for each position.

So basically, who (of the following) is the best defenceman in the NHL? ie. which Dman would you want on your team for next year only? (independent of their respective salary)

Vote away.

Ranking so far

1. Lidstrom
2. Chara
3. Pronger
4. Niedermayer
5. Weber
6. Markov
7. Gonchar
8. Keith
9. Bouwmeester
10. Green

11. Boyle
12. Timonen
13. Phaneuf
14. Zubov
15. Kaberle
16. Martin
17. Streit
18. Rafalski
19. Regehr
20. Suter
21. Seabrook

Brian Campbell.

For one season, equal salary, he is my man.

I honestly don't understand how anyone could pick Campbell already. Kronwall scored 1 fewer point than Campbell and is better at all other aspects of the game. Wideman scored 2 fewer points than Campbell and is much better defensively. I honestly don't see how anyone could pick Campbell over Kronwall or Wideman. In my own opinion, of course.

Has Jovanovski's stock fallen so badly that he's not even considered top 36 anymore? And below people like Burns, Vlasic, McCabe, and so forth? I honestly think he's symptomatic of Coach Gretz Syndrome.

Also, as a Canucks fan, I dare say Edler, Mitchell, and Salo all out-perform Bieksa.

I like Kronwall here, but Wideman isn't a bad choice.

Brian Campbell, if Shea Weber can be picked at #5, Campbell should be selected by now.

Toss up between Kronwall, Wideman and Burns. Voted Kronwall since he played for my local team if I'm being honest.

Weber is ridiculously overrated, but that doesn't mean the Campbell should be overrated either. What's funny about HF is that there is always a love affair for dmen who put up huge offensive numbers at first. The honeymoon usually only lasts 1 season. Look at polls from a year or two ago, Campbell was considered top 5-10 back then too.

The same thing will happen to Green next season. People will realize he is a one trick pony and his ranking will drop to the 20s.

I'd take Wideman over Campbell, who should be around 23-25th.

vlasic = underrated. i'm not saying he's the clear-cut best player left (though i voted for him), but there's no way campbell should have double the votes he does.

Vlasic is one of the guys I'd consider voting for once Kronwall and Wideman are off the board. Half the guys up there are better than Campbell.

Guys to consider adding:

Willie Mitchell (or more like, add him back. He's really not that much worse than Regehr in terms of purely defensive guys).

Hejda (I feel like a broken record )

Rob Blake (Well past his prime, but still scored 45 points)
