Really? Weird. Sure hoping it's league minimum or really close.

I hope he didn't get anything over $700K... a backup for Luongo shouldn't get much playing time next season, especially if they still have Schneider, who should at least get call-up duty to give him some NHL experience next year.

this is very strange.....

Luongo trade in the works!! j/k j/k

He's going to command too much $$.\
This signing indicates to me that we will be getting no more help up front unless through trade.

Meh. We needed a backup and Raycroft is as good and hopefully as cheap as anyone out there.

I hope we signed him for minimum wage. $8/hour.

I think I've lost faith in Gillis, just a boneheaded move.

I wonder if it's a two-way deal in case Schneider doesn't make the team?

Considering the Canucks have no goaltending depth past Schneider, anything right now is better.

I'm guessing lack of organizational depth was the motive for this one.

As a backup I think it's solid. He's played plenty of games. He won't(hopefully) get more than 10-15 behind Luongo.

He'll be okay as a backup. Maybe a trade with Schneider is in the works

We have no idea what the terms are, it's a bit early to be writing this off as a mistake; let alone Gillis' entire tenure here.

There was a decent list of UFA goalies available, obviously Raycroft wasn't at the top but if the price is right I don't really care

Getting depth in a position where we only have 2 goaltenders signed is a bonehead move?

A signing to push Schneider at camp.

Everything since then has been downhill, but this is the first spot he's landed where I don't think he's been pencilled in as a No. 1/1A guy.(he was expected to compete with Budaj in Colorado last year, I think). There will be no such competition with Luongo in goal. As a backup, I don't mind the signing provided the price is right. No worse than Sanford or LaBarbera.

I'd imagine it's a two-way. I mean we've seen how Aquilini doesn't mind paying guys NHL salaries while they play in the minors, but still, there must come a point where he says enough wasting money on players that don't help the Canucks.

I bet Raycroft agreed to a two-way just to get a chance to learn from Luongo.

Also bear in mind everytime anybody here has thought "it's got to be a two-way!" we've been horribly mistaken.

You see that Labarbera got 1 million per with Phoenix?

depending on $ he'll be a good backup for those 5 or so games.

Why does it matter if it is a two way or not? We have never had a problem with burying bad contracts in the minors.

He started the season 10-2 with the Avs. He can win the games he's supposed to win against bottom feeders. The Avs were fifth in the west until injuries hit largely because he made the saves he was supposed to make and the offense was scoring. He'll play max 10 games against bottom feeders on a better team than he was last year. He'll likely go 6-4 or 7-3 and thats all you should want from a backup.
