I really hope Gillis doesn't get in a bidding war for an unproven player. The college signings he has made so far are low risk and solid. Tying up that much cap space in a college player would be a mistake IMO.
One of the only sensible posts Ive read in this thread.

Great post.

EDIT: Here's how it works:

AgeLength of ELC
18-213 years
22-232 years
241 year
25+Not Subject

Age is determined as of September 15th. So since Gilroy will be 25 he's not bound by the restrictions of the entry level system (two-way contract being one aspect). Brunnstrom was.
Well **** me sideways and call me Sally. Mea culpa.

Nice to see the club getting more pro-active.

Evan Goldberg?

I don't believe he was actually in Superbad. He co-wrote it with Seth Rogen. Two Vancouver guys. Evan's sister is friends with some of my friends.

Can you give us a scouting report - how is his skating, defensive awareness, goal scorer or set up man, still a virgin?

stolen from CDC, forward to about 2:51 for the video. Oberg has scored with 0.8 seconds in the game to tie it.

No one seems to be talking about this kid, he could see some NHL action next season(probably just as a call up but who knows, he could surprise and make the team).
Havent seen what his salary will be except that when I played around with that Cap geek thing(which is pretty useful by the way) he is listed there as a option with a salary of 1.562mill till 2012(obviously mostly bonuses).
Anyways I dont know enough about this kid but Gillis sure seems high on him(and he is a pretty darn good d prospect in our system).

I also have to admit I completely forgot about him.

Considering how short we are on defensive depth in the system, he could be fast-tracked more than he would in other team's systems. That said, I think that we need to sign someone like Zubov to bridge the gap until we can safely start icing our prospects.

His cap hit minus bonuses is 0.75M. I was thinking about this earlier and I could see Gillis signing someone like Eminger and having him and Oberg rotating in and out of the 3rd pairing.

Forgetting about prospects like Oberg is pretty easy this time of year because of the UFA market being open. Fans tend to forget that the young players in the organization could be the better way to go.

I haven't actually written down the names of our d prospects to figure this out but I'm pretty sure Oberg is right up there with Sauve if not slightly higher.

I agree that nobody is really mentioning him much, he has a huge opportunity with our club both short and long term if he can come in and play.

O'berg could be similar to Matt Hunwick, one year in the AHL and he's good to go. O'berg put up similar numbers in his soph year that Hunwick did in his senior year, and on a worse team.

Michael Cera played Evan Goldberg. So technically he was in the movie.

Hunwick has also put in a full 4yrs in the NCAA before going to the AHL... he also seems way too small right now, being listed anywhere from 160 to 170 pounds on different scouting sites - which is way too small for an NHL defender. Hunwick was playing at 190 last year.

Oberg was apparently listed at 180 at the start of last year but was only 165 when he cam to the Moose. He is 21 so pretty soon he should fill in his frame and hopefully get back up to 180+ over the summer and hold it. But he does seem undersized for now.

Anyone know why he didnt play for the Moose?
Was he signed too late I guess?

You guys are overrating Oberg, imo. He's not going to be anything like Hunwick, to be honest I think he'll end up like Duncan Keith or something.

Nah...you're pumping his tires as much as the others. Oberg will probably be a Lidstrom-type guy, tops.

He'll probably be better than Lidstrom in the near future, too, seeing as how he hasn't been speared in the testicles yet.
