I would really hate those lines with exception Carter and Hartnell and some UFA RW. Those lines are pure garbage imo
You play Richards with garbage but Giroux gets to play with Gagne and Briere. Giroux is as outstanding prospect but lets not get ahead of our self’s.
Kaktus, Giroux was out best player in the playoffs and showed great chemistry with Briere and Gagne on separate occasions.
I think the idea behind those lines is Richards is the more likely to fill the roll of the defensive center....He would probably still lead our team in time on the ice, even if on the "3rd line" Personally, I think he and Carcillo would be great together, I would just like to get a more skilled RW with the two of them than Ilap or whatever the heck we are calling him today

I've seen those 6 playoffs games. Means nothing, we are talking about 82 regular season games and Richards is our 1st or 2nd best forward.
Load 1st two lines for 1-2 punch and teach 3rd and 4th line to play some D.
We just need to get in there (playoffs) make a good reasonable trade and enjoy the ride as FANS (that we are)
Personally, I believe it is important to play everyone with everyone else on the team. Even Cote should get 1 or 2 minutes a year on one of 1st lines. This is how you build a team.
I would hate to put so much pressure on Giroux in his (really) 1st full NHL year playing top 3 centers. Bring him slow, no pressure, he is in between Gagne, Briere and Parise type players in terms of skill and playmaking. Kid is special but he is not Crosby or Malkin. Take it easy. 10lbs of muscle some more NHL experience and he will be a monster to play against. He already is almost there. One wrong check and he is on IR and young players tend to push it to much. I can do it coach. bla bla bla

Let's say you move Richards to the third line as a defensive stopper against a team's top line. OK. Now you have a hole to fill in the top 6. And you're also saying that the team would need to get an additional possible borderline top 6 RW to play on the third line. Where are these players coming from? JVR hasn't proven to anyone he's NHL ready. Nodl hasn't shown signs of capably playing in a top 6 role.
People need to stop thinking we can roll 3 scoring lines or a third line that could potentially net a fair amount of goals. It just ain't gonna happen. Although the FA pool isn't completely depleted, it does have a pretty big dent in it. Not to mention we haven't freed up ANY cap space yet to sign any potential FAs. And if we do free up said cap space, then we need to fill another hole on d. It's just not looking like this team is going to have the offensive depth it enjoyed the previous couple of seasons.
If Richards is in fact slated to play a more shut-down role on the third line, we need to acquire another top 6 forward (no, JVR isn't going to cut it).
Gagne - Briere - Lappy Lappy isn't defensivly retarded and can cover for the totally inept briere. Briere had great chemistry with gagne for the last 2 seasons when they actually play together.
Hartnell - Carter - Shanny(1 mil) Shanny is another player that could easily hit 20 goals again on a line with hartnell and carter picking up rebounds. Would replace the goal scoring of Lupul with the added punch of being able to win shootouts for us. Something we desperatly need
Giroux - Richards - Powe/JVR/Maroon - Powe is fast enough to cause trouble and loosen up the puck to players like giroux and richards. He also scored some pretty important goals last season. With decent line mates i think he could easily match the production of Upshall while contributing the spice that upshall had last year. If JVR makes great strides in the AHL then he gets promoted to the big club to play on a scoring line.
Asham - Powe/Phantom - Carcillo - Powe returns to the bottom line if JVR reaches the level required. Maroon also a possible choice considering his size and slick hands at the AHL level.
Pronger - Parent - The best in the league covers for parent who may make a few more mistakes while he becomes better at this level. Coburn learns from pronger while watching him from the bench.
Timonen - Coburn - The best defensive pairing that the flyers have had for the last 2 seasons. Already proven chemistry. Safe pairing
Vannanan /Marshal - MAB(1.5 mil) We lose jones and carle to the minors if we get no takers for them. We bring van back for a million and sign MAB for 1.5 mil
Money lost through carle + jones = 6.2 million
Sign shanny 1 year 1 million
Sign MAB 1 year 1.5 mil
Vananan 1 year 1.5 mil
JVR comes up half way through the season = 2 million cap hit.
Money gained 6 million

I actually don't mind that too much. My only issue there is that Richards line will be forced to be the shutdown line, and then we have arguably our 2 most creative offensive players (Richards and Giroux) thinking defense first.
I think it only becomes defensive if they choose to be. Powe usually goes around the ice like a little mad man, and because of his speed he hits often. If it doesn't work you can move briere for richards, and have a line of Giroux - Briere - JVR/Powe.
I think powe can actually be a pretty decent scorer at the NHL level. He only potted 6 goals this year. But when you consider that he was on the fourth line pretty much all year. 60 games - 6 goals - 11 points. When upshall scored only 7 goals on a line with carter. I think powe will do nicely this year. Hoping for 15 goals if he has giroux and richards on his line.
I think those top 2 lines are nasty scoring lines, and the bottom 2 are pretty good checking lines. For Phantom players, I'd love to see Maroon, Laliberte, Matsumoto, Kalinski, and Nodl be rotated through.

Look, we had Sbisa with a groin injury. Who knew?
Lets not do to him like we did Zubrus and others.
i agree with you... let's let things play out during the season a little before putting the kid under the pressure of carrying a line.
gagne - richards - giroux (all good 2 way players)
hartnell - carter - briere
carcillo - lappy- bert/shanny-type
powe/cote - cheap FO specialist (gratton/betts) - asham
ideally, at some point JVR or maybe maroon can step in and your can roll 3 offensive lines again.
gagne - richards - giroux
hartnell - carter - JVR
bert/shanny - briere - lappy (lappy & giroux can switch depending on late game matchups against bigger Forwards ie: malkin, AO, etc)
carcillo - gatton/betts - asham
if none of the younger guys develop they should have some flexibility to make a deadline move if needed.
Kotalik maybe? he has decent size and can be a good 2 way guy
yeah, i was looking at him but what do you think he goes for?
i wouldn't mind a fedetenko type deal for someone like kotalik or pyatt...they don't bring the experience that shanny or bert do but they both have decent size and can skate even if they are inconsistent finishers.

Vaananen and Bergeron at 1.5 mil each? Ugh. That's about a million times worse than Jones and Carle. There is a reason why Vaananen got waived at 1 mil and then didn't get much playing time with the Canucks. I can understand giving him another chance at more limited role (as he was playing top pairing), but definitely not at half a mil more than he made last year. And Bergeron is such a liability defensively, he makes Carle and Jones look like Ken Danyeko.
