Nashville - Boston

Nashville sends Dan Hamhuis & one of their 2nd's in '10 draft for Phil Kessel

Boston gets cap space and a damn fine underrated Dman and Nashville gets a Top 6 Forward that can score some goals

Been perusing these proposals lately and this is the only thing close to a realistic offer I have seen.

Good on ya.

If by Hamhuis you mean Suter-the 2nd.

Sorry, but DH has one year left on his sweetheart deal before the Bruins will likely let him go. Not worth it at all for the Bruins.

As a fan of neither team, it really makes a lot of sense to me for both Nashville and Boston.

Do you honestly think Kessel will bring in Suter AND a second? I'd be happy with just Suter.

If Hamhuis is signed to an extension for the same price I'd take it.

Which might be the reason I put -the 2nd.

The only way it's remotely fair is if Hamhuis signs for 5 years at his current cap price.

Would have made much more sense had you just said Suter for Kessel...

Ok, but I didn't.

I said Suter-the 2nd

Looks easy enough to read. No need to nitpick.

Nashville would never do that....

This deal as originally proposed would be done by Chia IMO.

Oh, for crying out loud. Would you expect Kessel to bring in Neidermayer, or Pronger, or Chara?

No? Then stop saying Suter or Weber. They're both legit #1s signed to sweetheart deals. If you did come up with a trade Nashville would accept, it'd probably be one y'all find most disagreeable.

Hamhuis is UFA next season, and that seems alot to give up for that reason.

Ok. There's still no chance that Kessel gets traded for a #3 D-man with one year left on his deal, heading into UFA.

Phil Kessel for one year of Dan Hamhuis and a 2nd round pick? That's a terrible return. I'd rather make a play for a better player like Kaberle, who's at least signed beyond next season.

If Hamhuis was inked to a reasonable extension, it'd make a little more sense.

number 3 on the Predators does not = number 3 on most teams. Dan Hamhuis is a number 2 defenseman on most teams. A Chara\Hamhuis pairing would be very, very good.

And for crying out loud, he's UFA in a year. He makes 2.5 now, he'll likely make 4 or 4.5 on his next contract. It's not like you can't sign him long-term between now and then.

Maybe you've missed the whole "Why the Bruins are even considering trading Kessel" discussion.......

I'd pass on this deal as is. Not enough cap savings to warrant a big drop in offense and a #3 Dman (even on the Bruins he'd be a #3 behind Chara and Wideman)

and I'm sure Hamhuis would take less to play in a traditional market, don't you think ?

If I'm Nashville, I'd offer Hamhuis + 1st in 2010.

Gives Boston the Dman they're searching for, plus at least 2.5 million in cap relief. Preds 1st in 2010 could be anywhere from #1-20.

BOS could probably sign Hamhuis to an extension ~4 million. His increase could be funded by the departure of Ward in 2010.

Preds would be very hesitant to add Kessel's price tag. They'd almost certainly have to move Erat, Legwand, or Dumont (although all three have NTC). Wilson-Kessel could be a nice pairing.
