Whats Kaberle's contract in terms and years? On the surface it sounds bad, but it may be necessary to make a move like this if Kaberle's contract isnt too excessive in dollars and years.

Hawks really need to get rid of that contract before Toews, Kane & Keith (and Seabook the following year) hit the UFA market.

nobody in the league should help you by taking campbell off your hands, and i doubt anyone will. the hawks better have a great season because next year there is absolutely no chance they'll be able to keep kane, toews, and keith with all of the money they have dished out. that is unless they basically give players away for far from market value in trades for the cap relief

I would have thought the same about Gomez so never say never.

What about something based around Van Ryn and Finger for Campbell, Sopel and a whole bunch of goodies? Chicago saves a little bit of room for this year, and a whole lot of room, next year. Toronto can afford to pay Sopel to play in the AHL, and they get a really good puck moving defensman in Campbell to compliment their current group of stalwart types. Adding Finger helps ease the pain of Campbell's cap-hit the next three years, and Kaberle will be off the books in a couple.

Van Ryn + Finger + 4th 2010

for

Campbell + 1st 2010 + Brouwer

Just putting it out there. No need to flame.

Chicago has Toronto's 2nd rounder. Replace Beach with Brouwer and remove the pick that Toronto doesn't have and i'd do it.

What about replacing Van Ryn and a 2nd for White and a later pick?

Id do that from a Chicago standpoint. Would hate to lose Beach, but for losing that contract of Campbell's, that is a fair price.

Can Chicago afford to hide Sopel in the AHL? Toronto probably can, right? Maybe include him, too?

2010 draft is very toploaded, not deep throughout like 2009. Seeing as Chicago's likely to end up drafting low, no thanks.

I'll take Campbell with Toews for free though

Interesting... Demitra can go play with the other 1/3rd of the 'Trencin Trio'.

I'd actually make that trade the more I think about it... Versteeg is frackin' awesome.

Hawks would make that deal (Campbell & Versteeg for Demitra) in a heartbeat. Demitra with just one year left on his contract would be a perfect pickup to free up cap space.

Fedoruk, David Hale, Dave Scatchards remaining contract and a million each year left on the deal for Campbell

Can't trade money. Those three don't count against the cap long enough to make it worth it.

We probably can but the problem is we already have 11 d men under contract. With the deal in place, leafs lose one of those contracts. I think Chi would have to add another pick if Sopel were to be added.

In hindsight it was a good thing that the Thrashers lost that bidding war to Chicago.

Atlanta will have $5 in cap opened up next summer if Kubina departs...but the Campbell contract is not that front-loaded (something that would make him more attractive to the Thrashers) and he would still have 5 more years left.

I could see Atlanta being interested in him, but CHI might have to include a young (cheap) player instead of a pick to compensate for the huge salary.

Or you can pray for Bob Gainey to bail out your team.

No way in hell.
Buying out Campbell is in no way a good idea for the Hawks. Now your looking at a cap hit of 2.3+ million for twice the term of the contract.
