Nick Boynton a Duck

Just went on the Anaheim website, and Nick Boynton is clearly on the roster. I hadn't heard about him signing anywhere but I see now that he's on the roster. He's a serviceable NHL defenseman so I can't believe he was a depth signing for their farm team.

If true, i have to say Bob Murray reads HFBoards. Next, Mike Grier.

Seems legit: http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app?page=P...e=page&tab=prf

I don't think Boynton is more than a #6 defenseman at this point. Florida sheltered him big time last year, lending him the 4th easiest matchups of any defenseman in the league (over 40 games played).

Despite having by far the easiest matchups on Florida he was on the ice for the most even strength goals. Hmmm...

Scott Niedermayers makes all of his defensive partners look better.

Everyone gets better when they come to Anaheim, Boynton is going to win the Norris next year.

Boynton would fit in nicely with Whitney.

Wisniewski - Niedermayer
Boynton - Whitney
Sbisa - Brookbank (Festerling, Mikkelson, Mitera, Salcido and McCarthy could possibly make the 3rd pairing)

looks good to me.

That defense looks very shakey defensively to me. I see Whitney-Boynton being a potential disaster in their own zone, especially against second line offensive players.

Agreed, you don't want Whitney and Boynton together. That is a defensive breakdown just waiting to happen.

(Though I expect Whitney to sure up that part of his game and be a great defenseman)

I would like to present to you two statements that contradict one another:

We need to improve our defense.

We should sign Nick Boynton.

Yeah, losing a perennial Norris contender isn't a big deal.

Not saying the Ducks defense will be bad, however Boynton, Whitney, Brookbank, and Sbisa better play a bit over their heads or else Anaheim might be in trouble.

Boynton is pretty bad at this point in his career.

Whitney needs to play like he did last year for us and he'll be fine. Brookbank... yes, it is so important to have the #6 play well over his head in order for us to succeed.

Put Boynton with Nieds and Wis with Whitney then, and we're set. Whitney was decent defensively since coming to Anaheim, and I think he can put up 45-50 points next season with all the good producing forwards on the team.

I agree about Brookbank, hopefully he can keep his game up, he was good at the end of the season and in the playoffs. As for Sbisa, I feel he's quite underrated around the board. The guy could even turn out to be a solid #4 D-man next season already.
