i think either shanahan or bertuzzi if you can get one cheap. probably shanahan will come cheaper. they both bring veteran leadership.i think youll see one off them playing in philly this year. homer has looked into brining them in already

I'd take Bonk, but I'd prefer Marcel Goc. I'm all for giving Kalinski another chance too, but on the fourth line to start and maybe not until an injury happens. I don't want to rely on him from the outset.

Those were my votes: Bonk and "other".

Goc would be the **** in O&B.

I could have selected three?

I thought I was limited to one... Oh well... that's what I get for voting before reading the thread.

Blair Betts if he is healthy. Probably won't want to go back to NYR with Brashear being on the team now.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Goc, from fans of all different teams...saying he's a defensive-minded 3rd line center who is great in the face-off circle, and will come cheap. I don't know much about him myself, but he sounds like the type of guy we could really use.

While I'd prefer a guy like Goc....getting someone like Bertuzzi or Shanahan would be nice if for no other reason than that they could provide a net presence on the PP. We're going to miss Knuble, and with Hartnell out there with the first unit, we don't have anyone to fulfill that role for the second unit.

I'm still unsure of how the lines would stack up if got Shanahan/Bertuzzi...it would almost make you wanna try the three scoring line thing again, but I don't know if just adding one of those guys is enough to make it worthwhile. I don't know...I can think of a number of options for the lines if we got one of those guys, but I'm not sure that any of them would be better overall than the type of lines we could create with a guy like Goc centering a checking line.

I wonder if Silly would not retire and play for really cheap. The guy is a faceoff winning machine.

I would like Goc and Shanahan if possible. However, if I had to pick one it would be Goc. Shanahan brings experience and leadership, the ability to score a few goals, move up in the lineup in case of injury, and score in the shootout, but Goc fills a need. Shanahan would be a luxury, a defensive faceoff specialist is a need. Also, Shanahan is pretty old and could get banged up easier than someone younger.

Bonk - Goc - Bertuzzi
in that order
The first 2 are good on faceoffs
Bertuzzi would be a solid bottom 6 guy who could step up in case of injury

Goc, Yelle, Bonk in that order. Any one of them would be just fine. Wouldn't Yelle be the most expensive?

I saw plenty of games where Shannahan played but noticed him very little - VERY slow and horrible at even strength. I want no part of Bertuzzi - he reaks of Boulerice, Tibbets, etc. Just another dirtbag type that Clarke tried to reform.

Travis Moen, Lukas Kaspar, Jon Matsumoto/Pat Maroon

Moen has Cup experience
Kaspar just needs a change of scenery
Matsumoto and Maroon are ready to make the next jump

How is Moen on faceoffs? I love the fact that he can threw over 150 hits a year and PK and he fights

How is he on faceoffs (what I really care about) and how much did he make last season? If he is over 50% sign me up. Kicked Callahan ass, fought Carcillo and Barnaby too (nice scraps there). Seems like a goon then a faceoff specialist. Do we need more of those? I do not know much about him. Somehow he fights skilled guys and i like that.

Carcillo Moen Asham thats lights out on 4th line.

Kaspar? May as well give a shot to Maroon...

Goc would be my preferred I think. What they really need is a defensive 3rd line center who can win faceoffs, he fits the mold. Another winger will IMO lead to the weakening of the top-2 lines and that's not the right direction IMO. This is because if they add another productive winger (Shanny or Bert for example) they'll very likely stretch it out to try and have 3 productive lines...

Hartnell-Carter-??
Gagne-Richards-Briere
Shanny/Bert-Giroux-??

so now you have to fill two spots that should be good offensive players with players who aren't good offensively, it doesn't make sense to me.

I don't know about Goc. I watched a bunch of Sharks games last year, and he didn't impress me. It seems like he was relegated to the 4th line on the Sharks, which is odd because he was supposed to be a great 3rd line shut down guy. He's a guy that quickly fell out of favor in SJ. He's also missed a fair amount (about 30 games/year) the last two years.

I Would say:

one of these centers:
-Mike Peca
-Brendan Morisson
- JR (why not?)
- Ryan Potulny (would he come back?)

maybe one of these wingers:
- Jiri Hudler (not gonna happen, I know)
- Viktor Kozlov (see Hudler...)
- Peter Sykora (see Hudler, Kozlov).

So in fact no wingers as far as I'm concerned... I prefer an Kalinski/Powe/Nodl...

1 name is floating through my mind though.... Scottie U... What do you think?
so
