our bottom-6 players

Asham, Carcillo, Cote, Powe, LaPerriere, Kalinski, Nodl, Ross

Everyone of those guys can play wing. Not one of them are good on the draw. Adding an offensive player to that doesn't help anything and adding a winger doesn't help anything.

He should be, but apparently SJ didn't tender him.

He's also missed a fair amount (about 30 games/year) the last two years.
When you're on the depth chart behind Thornton, Marleau, and Pavelski, it's pretty easy to get relegated to the fourth line. He still won a ton of faceoffs and is only like 25. Considering we don't really have a fourth line center anyway, it can't hurt to pick him up.

So in fact no wingers as far as I'm concerned... I prefer an Kalinski/Powe/Nodl...

1 name is floating through my mind though.... Scottie U... What do you think?
so
would love him but he is a RFA that we traded so we can't trade for him and we don't have the draft picks to sign him to an offer sheet...i made the same mistake.

This is because if they add another productive winger (Shanny or Bert for example) they'll very likely stretch it out to try and have 3 productive lines...

Hartnell-Carter-??
Gagne-Richards-Briere
Shanny/Bert-Giroux-??

so now you have to fill two spots that should be good offensive players with players who aren't good offensively, it doesn't make sense to me.
from everything homer has said it seems that lappy is gonna play 3rd line center so you really only need a cheap 4th line FO and PK specialist (betts, gratton, sillinger) which should leave some cap space for a third line winger with some scoring & PP skills that won't play a lot of minutes ( shanny, bert types).

Dominic Moore was 14th overall in faceoffs last year, and racked up 45 points on two mediocre teams (Buffalo and Toronto). Two-way centre for the 3rd line.

Stephane Yelle

Radek Bonk

I'd just as soon save the money and make Powe that 3rd line winger. Lappy isn't good on the draw though.

I like Yelle and what he has to offer defensively and in the faceoff.

i think you go with offense during the season and pick up the defensive/FO guy at the deadline.

I think he might have been talking about Tuomo? Slightly more relevant, but still not much of a faceoff guy.

I don't understand that. If it helps you win in the playoffs it should help you win in the regular season.

i think you can be successful during the season because you play teams you are simply better then and you will have games on home ice that you have last change, however, in the playoffs teams are more evenly matched and play to match ups more during a long series as opposed to during the season.

also, if you lose a top six forward for extended time during the season it is harder to replace.

besides look at some of the players available at the deadline last season
morrison (waived), adams (waived), phalsson (trade), i think it is an easier need to fill then picking up a scorer.

Out of them, i think Yelle might be the best fit. That said, i don't see any of them being Flyers next season

Bonk was 60% on faceoffs last year but has been a minus 43 over the past two seasons, so it's really a mixed bag. At least he can contribute something offensively though as opposed to someone like Goc who I'd have very little interest in. Not terribly interested in Yelle either. Don't really need another grinding winger so Grier is of little appeal. And while I like Moen I'd pass for the same reason I just mentioned. Just don't really need him on this team. Peca would be a decent option at like $1M, although he's just average on faceoffs.

Personally I like either Shanny or Bertuzzi for sure. I think Bert might want closer to $2M, with Shanny around $1M, so ultimately that might make the decision, but I'd be happy with either. I think Chris Gratton would be perfect at around the league minimum for the 4th line center. To be able to add Gratton and Shanny for like $1.5M would be real good.

Absolutely, but he's a winger so he doesn't take faceoffs.

i agree...regardless of who they get as a third line center richards and gagne are going to be playing against most teams top lines so there is no need to spend over $1MM for someone to just take important faceoffs when you can fill that role with guys like gratton or betts...get someone like shanny that can play 8-10 minutes a game and move him up with richards and gagne late when you are trying to close out games with a lead if needed.
i know gratton was a disaster his first time through town but i like having a center with some size that is strong on faceoffs.

All 3 are good options, add Malhotra to that list and there are 4 decent players who can be a 3rd line center. In this order.

1) Dominic Moore
2) Manny Malhotra
3) Stephane Yelle
4) Radek Bonk
