Last year he let in 6 goals on 18 shots for a save% of .667 31st in the league (though to be fair there are several goalies with an extremely small sample size ahead of him). For comparison Smith let in 15 of 27 shots for a save% of .444 which ranked 57th. Ramo let in 6 of 13 for a save% of .615.

Another good signing, he will do well as a back-up.

Niittymäki is a great back-up for TB. Much better than Rämö.

Smitty Nitty Bang Bang!

Fitting, when you consider Smiths temper...and Nitty's mob themed mask.

For those of you that might not know, his nickname is Frank.

Hope he does well for you guys, I will miss him in Philly.

The mask is amazing...

...but he'll probably get some fruity beach scene or a fish or some shiz like that.

If you remove Philadelphia’s disastrous 2006-2007 season from the equation, Niittymaki’s combined record against Washington, Carolina, Florida, and Atlanta is a flabbergasting 25-0-4.
He's a Southeast specialist. This move is pure genius.

What makes things a bit unequal are Niittymaki's hips, which have undergone three surgeries. He had surgery in May 2006 for a torn labrum in his right hip, surgery in April 2007 for a torn labrum in his left hip, and surgery in September 2008 on his left hip, a procedure Niittymaki characterized as a "clean-up." Though he missed training camp, he came off the bench to play in the Flyers Oct. 11 opener.

"I know there's a lot of talk about my hip," Niittymaki said from Finland. "I mean, it's good. I'm not going to lie to anybody. It's not like a normal, healthy hip, but it's as good as it can be. The doctor says it will be fine many years from now, and I'll be able to play many years from now. So, I don't think it's a problem. I feel 100 percent right now."

Lawton is starting to really look smart right about now. This was ingenious, especially for the price. Nitty isn't supposed to be a long-term starter, so let's hope Smith doesn't get knocked out again, but he'll be a great 20-25 game back up.
