46 Contracts

So far the Habs are at 46 contracts, so that leaves us with up to 4. With the development and rookie camps, I assume they would want to leave a couple spots, although guys that have to return to the CHL won't count against that number till they are 20.

Sounds about right, we're probably 1 or 2 NHLers away from a full team (a defenseman for sure, and maybe a forward).

That brings it to 46, which leaves a couple safety spots for college guys who might defect or to take people on in a trade. As well as a couple more AHLers.

Before last season Mr. Gainey said he was done at some point. He didn't say anything like that yet. It ain't over until he sings.

Bummer, that's going to be a "weird" team.

I thought all those signings left us in a good position to make another trade actually oh well...

So we are at 45 contracts, still have room for 5 more.

Maybe one or two guys from the development camp will get a contract plus we sorely need a 3rd goalie.

a guy like Andre Benoit or Mike Glumac signed to an AHL deal only counts towards the 50 contracts cap??

But they are not under AHL contracts, they have NHL two-way contracts.

I thought we didn't qualify Shawn Belle. Did we re-sign him anyway?

I was thinking the same thing. Also now that we are in the discussion, if someone gets put on IR, does he still count against the 50 man contract cap?

Well, the Habs only announced they had qualified Plekanec, Higgins, Latendresse, D'Agostini, Chipchura and Stewart but if you check the link, you can see they qualified Belle too.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=34760

And no, Belle is not re-signed at the moment.
