Interesting to read that even though the Sens have an affiliate with Charlotte, its mainly Rangers kids, rangers system, and ranger oriented. I wonder if Ottawa just signed on to send some excess players there during the lockout or something, or in case they have overflow of players, but don't want to let them out of the system.

it has slightly since there are guys that would be in the ahl right now if it wasn't for the lockout, but i don't know if i'd say it has been a drastic difference

i wonder if this changes now that ottawa is affliated...

and it also seems odd that the rangers would go thru all the trouble of sending pelino there and getting the checkers to use their system just for taylor, liffiton, rawlyk and stals...especially since of those 4 liffiton and taylor are the only guys expected to be potentially part of the future.

if we had 10 prospects down there it would make more sense, but it seems like a waste for just 4 guys. as long as taylor and liffiton get playing time who cares what the rest of the checkers do

What's Pelino going to be doing, if he's not with the Checkers? Sitting at home watching Junior hockey? Might as well give him something constructive to do.

And I like the idea of having a "system" being taught in both the AHL and ECHL. That way when players are called up to the AHL they will be more ready to play--especially because they usually get called up because of injuries and don't have a lot of practice time to get ready.

Finally, there will probably be more than 4 Ranger prospects in Charlotte by the time the injured players in Hartford are ready. Murray and Pöck are not likely candiates to be sent down, but others will be heading to the Checkers for playing time. Might as well build on what they were doing in pre-season.

pelino was only there during training camp, he isn't coaching there. pelino and pearns are working as scouts during the lockout, so all this did was give pelino 3 less days to scout potential draft picks.

if your plan is simply to keep him busy during the lockout then why not send him to hartford as an extra coach there so he can work with ranger prospects? taylor and liffiton were still in hartford when he was with charlotte so he was with the checkers working with ZERO ranger prospects as opposed to being in hartford working with 20-25 ranger prospects.

and it also doesn't make sense from charlotte's standpoint. the rangers have no control over charlotte, so they asked to implement the system and the checkers agreed. but why go thru all that trouble just to set things up the way the rangers want it for taylor & liffiton? why change everything for 2 guys?? ESPECIALLY when that 'system' has yet to prove it can be even the slightest bit effective since it is brand new to the organization. i could see if it was ottawa's system and you could say that it has been proven over and over again to be successful and is something you want to model after, but why would anyone want to copy the rangers gameplan??

of course the real reason they agreed to it is probably because of $$...when the affliation deal was renewed the rangers probably offered to give them more $$ if they implement their system.

the idea of getting charlotte on the same page made alot more sense when we thought that 8-10 guys would be sent down and those guys would have to step in to the pack lineup the day after the lockout ended...it makes a lot less sense now that only 2-4 guys are there

Not really it's 2-4 now but it serves too purposes. It keeps those 2-4 guys in the mix without pretty much agreeing to banish them after one training camp and it also keeps a game plan when other players get sent down or rotated {Which is going to happen once certain players return from injury} so the number could swell to as high as possibly ten at its peak.

It's also important to remember that some of these kids are in the ECHL only because {dare we say it} the Rangers have some AHL depth and the lockout situation makes things a little tighter on everyone.

Basically it is a move to cover your assets. Why not get it done now rather than wait till after the season is underway and you have more assets down there?

By my count, the Rangers/Wofpack have currently have 8 players assigned to Charlotte.

Rangers:

Liffiton
Rawlyk
Stals
Taylor

Wolfpack:

Cullen
Cuthbert
Jamieson
MacIntyre

And when the injuries in Hartford start to heal up, I expect another 2 players to be sent down to Charlotte. Falardeau, Lawson, and Wirll are the most likely candidates. I'm also wondering what happens to Hollweg when Helminen comes back.

Granted, most of those guys have slim chances of being regulars for the Rangers but it looks like the Wolfpack will, instead of keeping a large contingent of spare players in the Civic Center stands, be regularly shifting players between Charlotte and Hartford. having the same system in both places helps all parties involved.
