Don't count on him leading your defence. He's a decent defencemen, but he needs a good partner to play with who can cover up for Komi's mistakes.

He can hit, block shots and play a mean physical game, but he has no offence at all and he isn't great with the puck. He panics in his own end and coughs the puck up a lot.

But like I said....if he has a good partner to play with....he can be an effective defencemen.

2007-2008 he was a great shutdown dman (top 3).

2008-2008 he wasn't the same after he lost a fight against Lucic and was injured.

He's only 27 and could come back as one of the best shutdown dman out there. The concern is, he was paired with Markov (top 5 in the league some would say) and that makes him look really good.

He blocks shots and hits a lot too

There's been a lot of hate around these boards toward Mike since he signed with the leafs, so obviously his stock has fallen around these parts. Truth be told, he's a damn fine defenseman. Really responsible defensively, doesn't back down from physical play, and a shot blocking machine.
That said, don't expect any offense from him. Much more of a shutdown guy. His slapper is strong, but it seems like it takes him far too long to release it, so he doesn't really fool anyone with it. His outlet passes aren't the crispest/most accurate either.
Despite that he's a big man, he's not the greatest of fighters, either.
He had a poor year this past season, but I personally believe he was playing injured for the majority of the season.
He should be a serviceable guy for the leafs, but probably not worth the 4.5 million he's being paid. But in reality, how many UFAs aren't overpaid?

if this is a legitimate question, then I have nothing to add to the previous posts, but if this is a trolling attempt to get us fans going on how "bad" Komi is, then you my friend have FAILED

Loads of character and will stick up for his teammates, is tough and will deliver big board hits, even if he goes unwisely out of his way to do it. On the downside, he really took a step back this year; looked like a combination of nervous and in outer space, and timid. Solid top-four shutdown D-man, potentially an elite one if he clears whatever the cobwebs are.

At absolute BEST he is a top pairing D-man but has zero offense to speak of. Can't get a point shot through to save his life and certainly not the most cerebral player around.

At worst he should be a top 4 D-man that blocks some shots and hits, but he's not smart enough to be a shutdown guy imo.

Good player...Burke would be wise to hold onto Kaberle though. Komisarek needs a partner who can do the thinking on the ice for him and just let him play instinctively

His hits are not devastating. He will hit you in the corners while you try the recover the puck, but he usualy let you go with it. He's not a good fighter either, he's more of a guy that gets under your skin. He blocks shot like crazy though, he also get a lot of impromptue penalities. He's a great guy, a leader.

He's a good player, he can block shots and give the hits here and there. But you better hope someone great is with him because he won't get the puck out of the zone on his own.

When he's healthy he is outstanding and has the capability to take over a game. He was one of our best players in 07-08. Losing him to injury this past year killed us and was a big reason for our 2nd half decline.

IF he's healthy, you guys have a great defenseman. He'd be great with Kaberle.

Hits, blocks shots, good leader.

Not a good fighter, terrible with the puck, always hits players with his shots which results in a breakaway the other way.

He had a rocky year last year, got his ass handed to him by Milan Lucic and hurt his shoulder, was never the same beast afterwards. Hopefully he bounces back.

He's a phenomenal team guy, big open ice hitter who can lay out game-changing hits but does put himself out of position and create odd man chances when he misses them. He is one the league's absolute best shot blockers. He hates to lose and gives everything he has. He has zero offensive upside it seems, is not a good passer and has no shot whatsoever.

Leafs fans will love him.

He was great two seasons ago and brutal last season. We'll see which version the Leafs get.

Overrate him much??? He was never outstanding. He made too many gaffs with the puck in his own end to be outstanding.

He has NEVER taken over a game.....EVER. He doesn't have any offence to take over a game and his defensive abilities aren't as good as Chara's so the chances of him taking over a game with his defence is a little much too.

Plekanec, Kovalev, Andrei, Hammer, Markov and Koivu were just as important or even moreso than Komisarek in 07-08.

Komi is a good defencemen if you need someone to play physical, make body checks and block shots.....after that, there isn't much.

Depends which Komisarek you get to be honest.

2007 he was good, a very physical defenseman who delivered momentum shifting hits, who was the best in the league at blocking shots. He didn't take too many penalties and wasn't a problem in his own end, just pass the puck to Markov and get out of the way.

2008 he was a disaster. After the Lucic debacle he didn't hit anybody, was horrible in his own end, was one of the worst in the league in turnovers, iced the puck time after time. Teams got wind that if you dumped the puck on his side of the ice and forechecked, he would make a mistake with the puck more times than not. He still was excellent at shot blocking, he is still a good guy, gives all he can every shift and has leadership abilities.

If you get the 2008 version, then good luck to you. I'll rather have Hal Gill. If you get the 2007 version then its a very good signing for your team. If you get somewhere in between then its an overpriced signing. Whatever the case, he better be paired with a puck moving D-Man.

Positives:
- Good defensive defenseman
- Blocks tons of shots
- Great team guy
- Tons of character
- Used to hit alot

Negatives:
- Overreacts alot after the whistle is blown
- No poise with the puck
- Not to agile (normal for a guy his size)
- Hasn't been himself since Lucic pounded him

The 4.5M version, the one that doesn't live up to that contract and get blamed for not doing things he's never done before (fighting, scoring)

no seriously, IF he comes back to the Komisarek of 2 seasons ago...he's a good signing
BUT if he plays like last year...you'll be dissapointed.

Lucic ruined him last year

he'll fit in with the leafs defence since burke is only interested in hits and not scoring. don't expect much more from him other than hits that put him out of position and blocked shots. pray he doesn't drop the gloves.

In bold, that was my biggest pet peeves from him, in the play-off especially. instead of going for the puck and passing it out of the zone, he would wait for the opponent to take the puck, then nail him, then the opponent would make a pass to their defence and they now control the puck in our zone. Maybe he was injured and didn't want to be hit but man...
