The Devils' board doesn't appear to be pleased with the news.

I guess no one's happy about it.

Would you be? They still were hearing crap about playing "boring" hockey into last year (which was decidedly not the case) and now they've got a coach who will absolutely employ a slow down philosophy...

No, I wouldn't particularily like the move if I was a Devils fan; I was just amused that both New Jersey and Philadelphia fans seem upset by the move.

The man gets the most wins out of his team that is possible...I think few could argue that. Given our teams struggles getting through any well coordinated defensive scheme, this definitely isn't a good thing for us.

What's really worth pondering: we've NEVER been good at getting through trap teams. NEVER. I don't care who was coaching us, we always got abused by the teams that were good at throwing the trap at us.

Not sure what to do with that information, but it is what it is.

It's one of the things about this team I can't quite figure out.

Oh good I finally get my hands on Parise in a keeper league and this happens. Plus, as Jester already mentioned, we are completely dumbfounded by the trap.

Parise will be fine. He's suited to that type of counter attack.

As much as I dont like the guy this has nothing to do with Stevens not being able how to figure out how to counter the trap or any other defensive system.
This has been going on since 95 (at least). You would have thought they would have learned by now.

Hitch was the only time we ever looked competent, but certainly not remarkable...and that was a Devs team on the decline so it was a bad test (and the road woes there continued right through his tenure).

If nothing else, it won't be because the passing skills of the D aren't good enough anymore.

Maybe they'll get kicked out of the league, since everyone HATES watching the trap.

Well, if that boring style made it so we could beat the Pens every time and we won 3 cups in the next 10 years then hell yeah I'd be happy with it.

I think a dose of Lemaire could be very good for this club, but we're not constructed to play at his tempo--frankly, I'm not sure that Devs team is at this point either.

Lemaire is a very good coach, but he does have his style and if you don't fit that style he'll make you fit, as opposed to adapting.

Will he help out the team that much? Look what happened to the Wild. It didn't really work so well with them.

What...play over their heads pretty much every season up there? Wild did not have the talent to really compete...especially when they're one big scorer was always hurt.

Just about anyone would have been an upgrade over Sutter, but this Lemaire guy what a buzzkiller he is. Real snoozemaster.
