the Canucks don't have a 2nd in 2010... make it a 2011 2nd and I'd do this deal.

This. We have Demitra, Kesler, Burrows, Raymond, Wellwood, Hodgson, Hansen, Bernier, and Grabner competing for our 2nd and 3rd line spots.

They could probably use him with Jiri Hudler going to Russia!

I would still add Kobasew for the price of a 2nd... he's still got 2 yrs left on his deal, and is good value for $2.33mill cap hit.

Kobasew adds good depth to the team, a 20 goal scorer who did it in just over 14mins/game of icetime, without much time on the PP at all... he also hits and plays with more grit than the majority of the Canucks forwards.

add Kobasew and deal someone else (Demitra, Raymond, Wellwood) to improve the depth on defense, and we're a better team.

Yep.. He's right handed too (which we need)... Makes perfect sense.

I guess so, but I think a team that needs Kobasew could offer more than the Canucks.

Bruins fans seriously underrate Kobasew, largely because he's missed some time in both of the last two seasons. $2.33 million for a right handed 20+ goal scorer who is willing to get his nose dirty is a pretty fair deal IMO. I'm pretty sure they could get more than a 2nd rounder for him, and if not, then I would keep him and move someone else.

We don't have a 2nd in 2010, but a 2nd in 2011? Sure.

Hansen + 2nd/3rd seems fair IMO

They get a cheap young winger and we get more depth

if we're just using picks here, the Kings offer up a 2010 2nd + 2010 3rd.

Bruins can get more than a late second rounder for Kobasew....

I honestly think that Kobasew is worth Helm and a 2nd or 3rd rounder. And I would do that deal from both sides. Replacing Hudler is more important than keeping one of the younger guys. The Wings have enough of them that they can replace Helm. I like Helm a lot as a player, but he isn't goign to be more than a third line player in his career I don't think, but he's already very good at centering a checking line so I think it works out. And Kobasew is a very solid 20 goal guy who replaces Hudler for less than Hudler probably would have gotten in arbitration.

Love Helm, but the Bruins are already loaded with 3rd line prospects. Marchand, Sobotka, Arneil, etc. I'd rather just get a late 1st or a good D prospect.

Definitely, the contract is more than fair for somebody you know is going to score 20 goals and 40-50 points in a season. His work ethic is awesome too. The main thing I don't really get about all the Kobasew trade talks is that it's not even saving that much. You could trade Ryder who makes almost twice as much as Kobasew with not nearly twice as much as total production for the year... Not to say I want to see either go, but I don't understand why people want to simply shave the cap by trading a great value contract.
