Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I don't think that'll be a problem, the rinks in Finland are more similar to North American rinks than traditional European larger rinks.

I'm not saying he's making the team, though, I'm just saying that both parts most likely expects that.

He's a feisty sob, there are far worse 3-liners in the NHL than him.

Yeah I'd say he'll make a much better third liner next year than Nodl or Asham.

Gagne-Richards-Powe
Hartnell-Carter-Pyorala
Lapperiere-Giroux-Briere
Carcillo-Kalinski/UFA-Asham

or with 2 scoring lines:

Gagne-Richards-Giroux
Hartnell-Carter-Briere
Powe-Pyorala-Lapperiere
Carcillo-Kalinski-Asham

English translation of Eliteprospects scouting report:

"Has great versatility, and can play both left wing and center. A two-way forward who is very good off the puck. Was a primarily a checker in the past, but then elevated his offensive game and started scoring points. Good hockey sense and a decent hitter. A team player who always works hard."

Sounds a little like Lehtinen or Kapanen.

that was what i had posted in the trade rumor thread. if he can have the impact that kapanen had at a similar age we've got ourselves a steal of a third line winger...

Sami Kapanen 2? Thanks for posting those vids GKJ. The thing that stood out most to me was the high level of passing by his linemates. He was doing a great job finishing though, nice touch. I might add that he looked like a mini Carter on a couple of those wristers.

I dig the name. The Flyers have always had something for Fins with cool names. We've got Kimmo Timonen, Antero Niittymaki, Sami Kapanen, Ilkka Sinisalo, Janne Niinimaa, Joni Pitkanen, and let's not forget the greatest Finn name of all - Jukka Pekka Seppo. Seriously, those are some bad ass names. Fins have hardcore names and Mika Pyorala is no different.

Kinda like Kapanen in reverse. Kapanen scored hit 30 goals one season before he came to the Flyers, then settled into a 15-20-35 type of groove. This guy looks like he upped the scoring as he's gone along. Probably a function of being stronger. Apparently, he was listed as 5'11"-6', 154 lbs. at one point. That is damn skinny for a professional hockey player.

What's the deal with a player like this? Is he waiver eligible or can he be sent to the Phantoms without going on waivers?

Well he and Backlund are both the same age, and I think he can be sent to the phantoms since he's on a 1 year ELC, so hopefully they both can.

I don't think anyone on an ELC is eligible for waivers

can he be worse than Jim Dowd?

can he be as good as or better than Kapanen?

we will find out one way or another

so for the 3rd/4th lines we have possibly Laperriere, Kalinski, Powe, Pyorala, Kaspar, Nodl, Marroon, Ross etc. etc...
