That is not reassuring.

Extending Frolov "hasn't been on the front burner" and "its really hard to predict the future for Fro."

Sounds like he ought not to get too settled.

Damn.

they may not be showing him the door, but he has most certainly been handed his hat.

Dang Wabwat, I hope that hat, has an LA Kings Logo on it! I want Fro to stay in the worst way!
He is one of my fave players ever! It will be a sad day for this franchise if Frolov is allowed to walk away!

Oh and by the way big hint to our Management group... Smyth is not Frolov!

Frolov and a pick for?????

I said when Cammi lost his arbitration hearing that I felt that Dean was not a fan of players from Taylor's reign......Frolov is really the last piece of that past....I do not see him being a part of Lombardi's Kings.

If he's gone, there'd better be another 30 goal scorer coming our way.

Kopitar never played under Taylor....so he wasn't tainted by Taylor's regime.

I think Frolov stays, I mean, we need him.. This is a contract year, so I think it boils down to how much he scores..

example:

20 goals= 3.5/year
30 goals= 4.5/year
40 goals= 5.5/year

So on and so forth.. Does that make sense?

D.Sedin has scored 30 goals twice in his 8 yr career and got $6.1M a yr. Frolov has done it twice in 6 seasons

I wouldn't expect to hear anything different at this point. It's nice hearing Hextall so candid about it.

1. Not surprised they haven't discussed an extension yet. The trades, draft, free agency and what not have surely taken up loads of time, and the dust is only just settling.

2. 30g guys just don't grow on trees, so there will be lots of interest - especially when that player is good defensively. Fro will likely get 5M-6M a year on the open market, so the Kings have to decide whether they want to tie up that cap space or go after a big fish.

3. If Fro comes out and puts out loads of effort, the Kings will really push to sign him, IMO. He's everything DL looks for in a player - strong on the boards, size, nice hands. The only thing he is ever criticized for is effort. Moves were made to make the Kings a playoff team this season. If Fro is excited about it and brings it every night early on I would be shocked if he isn't extended, even for a substantial cap hit.

I think you're reading way too much into Hex's comments. Anything he says publicly about Fro will enter into contract negotiations. If he praises him too highly, they'll bring that up & it'll add to his cost. He also doesn't want to seem too eager, since that can affect negotiations, too.
This is public posturing. I'm confident that Lombardi & Co. want Fro back - if they can get a contract from him that fits into the plan.

Could he not have simply said, "Of course, we want Frolov back but as always, there are a lot of different factors at play before that can come to fruition in this type of environment and that requires give and take by both sides."

Good grief, I sound like Dean

I really don't understand why everyone is so bent out of shape about Frolov potentially leaving. I understand he's been a King for a long time, he's a fan favorite around here, and has put up some impressive numbers. However, if you truly look at his body of work, it's not that fantastic. He's never stepped up and been a leader on the team. He's never won anything. Yes, the teams he has been forced to play on haven't been great, but that still doesn't take any responsibility away from Frolov. He was very much a part of those not-so-great teams. And again, when presented with the opportunity to step up his game just this past season, as the senior top line forward, he fell short. I understand the "but he led the team in goals!!1!" rebuttal, but hockey is a much deeper game than measuring numbers on a piece of paper months after the season has ended. It has always been the little things with Frolov that tell the real story.

I'm going to spell it out for most of you, even though I can already see the pitchforks being sharpened: Frolov is just not that good. And he's not nearly as good as most of you think he is.

I love Frolov just as much a the next guy. I really do. He could put up 30, 40 goal seasons playing second fiddle to guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg, and I'm sure everyone would sing his praises. But he has continually shown he is not "the guy" in LA. And I'm sorry, but you don't give secondary forwards like Frolov 5+ million.

If Frolov is dealt at the deadline for someone not named Kovalchuk, I won't freak out. I'm a realistic person. A Frolov package just won't be that attractive. And I think it's becoming increasingly obvious to those of us who don't live in dream land that Kovalchuk is staying in Atlanta.

Frolov will not win us a Cup. A two time 30 goal scorer without a single piece of hardware will not win us a Cup. Get over the fact that he's your favorite player and take into account the big picture. Frolov never has, and never will, take this team to the next level. And that's unfortunate, because he has always had the talent.
