He'd have to be sub 3 for me. He hasn't touched 20 goals in 2 seasons and has only been healthy for one.
I think thats a little unreasonable. He hasnt played less than 70 games in his career but once (69 one year), and he hasnt played with a real good center since Colorado. So I would assume that he would definitely be able to put up around 30 goals with Vinny. Also, we dont need him to score more than 30 goals (we have Vinny, Marty, Stammer for that), we to contribute scoring but most importantly be a playmaker for Vinny.
I think signing Tanguay would be a long-term error. We're probably not winning a cup this year, with or without him. My proposition is to try and keep developing our guys on the third and fourth lines. Tyrell, Downie and Szechuan Restaurant need to get playing time and keep developing.
Let's start with this: If the Lightning was to sign any of these still free agents (Alex Tanguay, Petr Sykora, Miroslav Satan), it will have to be at a bargain price. The team, with a payroll already pushing towards $50 million and with pieces such as Matt Smaby, Matt Lashoff and Mike Lundin yet to sign, isn't going to dive into any more big contracts. So the team will wait, most likely, and see if the market falls and sees who is available as training camps get closer.
It is no secret that in a perfect world, Lawton wants to add another top-six forward and even a bottom six...It seems the team will try to move at least one defenseman since there is some depth there (whether it's Lukas Krajicek and his $1.5 million salary or one of the youngsters is the question), and perhaps another player to get the payroll down, though it's looking more and more as if Jeff Halpern, despite a $2 million salary, will start the season as the third-line center.
I don't want Tanguay anywhere near this team. Dammit.
Unless he gives us a sick deal, I agree. We have enough young guys who need the playing time. This isn't our "gear up for one last shot at the cup" season anyway. Develop the young talent, and trade a coupla defenseman to upgrade the young wingers.
From what I saw from the prospects camp. To be honest I would love to see Tyrell get a shot on the line with Vinny. He has the tools and the speed, he reminds me a lot of Marty which we all know the chemistry there. Could be a perfect fit.
If anything give him a 8 or 9 game shot ( if he performs well in camp) and see if anythings there. If not then you send him back down to develop some more.
